I was just thinking. What happens when every toyota dealer gets their scions? Does anyone think that theyre going to end up being like the civic where everyone has one. I hope that doesnt happen

Edited by ghost: please refrain from using all caps in your thread subject, Thanks. :)

I am kinda confused with what your asking

Well what i seen around here is that everyone is getting or has civics or accords, ever since theyve seen what you can do with them. Every where you look you see a civic you dont even give them a second look. Theyre very common. I'm wondering if thats going to happen with the Scion. Or is it going to be like the PT Cruser you see some but not as much as the Civics.

I think they have very unique shapes the Scion's do...the most unique of course is the xB which I think will always catch peoples eyes....the only thing that will deter that is if and when Nissan brings over the Nissan Cube....they probably will since the xB is doing so well....and all the other Corporations start making box style cars

I just hope they dont become too common. Thats one of the reasons im interested in buying one.

according to some of hte cali guys on here (which is..what...like 95% of the population on scionlife? :D ) xB's are extremely popular in california. As to if they will be that popular here in Texas, as I noticed you're in austin :) , that's yet to be determined. We'll just have to wait and see really.

the scion is a hit or miss type car for people, but it is extremely popular and yes its the next civic imho. but who cares its how you do it up that makes it nice. If you rice it up rice it up, that leaves room for people that wanna build a clean ride =)

its scary and i try not to think about it so much, but yeah its very likely that it will become the next Civic.
i mean, even my mom who thinks the xB is ugly wouldn't mind owning one because of how practical it is.

i think any car weather its a nice WRX
or a scion. its not gonna matter.
there WILL be ricers or ghettto people
making their car look bad for us.
or acting a fool with their 105 hp
'RACECAR'. but its up to u..
i mean u may see tons of riced out civics,
but u DO see nice ones as well right?
same will be for scions.. u'll have your
share of cars u like and cars u hate.

this is what i was worried about to on another topic "mystery kit" i believe the xb did a headlight conversion some people thought it was too "ricey" but i think thats whats going to end up happening when theyre all over people are going to start doing extreme stuff to make theirs different from all the rest and try to stand out but yeah joey does have a point

I'm confused, ru saying old people shouldn't try to be young at heart and be friendly to fellow scioners?

What is old?

I've seen a couple other xB's in my travels and I wave and they look at me like they are clueless.... or have a 'tude towards someone who looks old.

i doubt it will be as popular as civics. try to do this, i know lots of us have other forums that we go to. get a poll on how they think about the xB. on 190Erevolution, we have a post about it and its only about 10% like it. on about 25 person that i spoke with about it, only one liked it. no matter how i tried to exlain to them about the special stuff the xB has, they still can't embrace it. it doesn't matter to me. I LIKE XB!!!! i'm having dreams sleeping or awake about this car. i'm going to get it soon!!!!, just saving up a little more for down payment, and still looking for lower rate loans.

The question is, do you want it because it is trendy or because it is useful?

If trendyness is your goal then you have to accept the insecurity inherent in following the crowd.

OTOH, if you buy the vehicle because of its utility, you'll be happy no matter how many they sell. In fact, you'll hope that they sell millions of the things to ensure a long-term parts supply!

The pricing system is intended for quantity sales, so I'd assume that's what Scion's counting on. I see another xB almost every day just driving up and down the 55 to work. They'll definitely be popular, there's just too good of a value not to be!

Its just going to be sad when the day comes that I'm not impressed to see another scion on the road. But that day will definitely come. They're just far too practical and cool!

If you're concerned about being original, better off getting an old car and customizing it. Otherwise (in creepy cult voice) "JOINNN UUUUSSSSSSS"

It will inevitably happen, because most will want a car that they can pack a lot of stuff in, and that is versitile, and cheap.

Just be gald if you are one of the first in your area to have the xB. And if your like most of us here on the East Coast, for $980 more, get the Hot Lava Orange, and be even more stand-out-ish! Just sucks that we have to wait 4 more weeks, but i bet it will be worth the wait.

I can deal with the Scion becoming the next Civic. I just hope it's not the next PT Cruiser

I decided to get rid of the family sedan (Camry- i don't even have a "family") and get something practical, a station wagon (xB)!!! Also my insurance will actually go down because of the xB.

Buying an xB so I can save up for a house (prefer a single detach house, not a big fan of townhouses). A house is a real investment, helps on your taxes. Don't need all the flash, just something utilitarian on side when I need it. I could care less if everyone get's one or other companies start it. Hopefully they do, SUV's are just over played, all look the same to me.

It'll be the next civic

mikeluvsjo
01-10-2004, 02:29 AM
it wont be the next civic for one reason. old ladies also drive civics. it is a good generic and reliable car so we see them with young people and older people alike. the scion we will see with the younger crowd only so it wont be that bad plus some people loyal to the civic will stay with it. so now we have the civic, Xb, Xa, and Tc. i think that might be enough to go around. It is trendy to not be trendy so in the end we all get screwed.

The one reason I am getting a hot lava is cause only 2100 of them are gonna be made. Even if some one decides to paint there orange it wont have the limited edition badge and everything. I wanted one of the first xB's in northern NY but I am gonna wait til my seris 1.0 comes. I dont think it will be the next civic cause I see old people, middle age and young people. I thiunk in a few years when everyone sells there Scions then you will see alot of young people buying it. I know when I was 18-20 I couldnt afford to buy a new 17K car. but I also dont live with parents.

anything that is new will always be popular, and these scions are like a fad. I think the more scions there are on the road the less popular they will become...even nowadays i dont seem to get that many heads turned anymore compared to when i bought it in july 2003, when my car literally stopped traffic.

I don't think you will see too many Scion styles "played out" here's why.... I don't think the Xb will ever be a Mass produced car in the way the Civic is rememeber stock is kept in check in dealerships pretty well plus I've heard Scion will change body styles and model types a lot quicker than normal for toyota/lexus (which is 4-5 year spans) ...the xb and xa arn't designed to appeal to everyone just us trendsetters 8) ...now the Tc will have more mass appeal and I'm sure Scion will make a mess of them (that would help keep costs down too :) ) but I think we will find Scions always changeing and I think that's great...down the road as the line expands I'm sure we'll see cars that appeal to some of us and others that appeal to a larger crowd... that's what so exiciting to me...something for all of us

Of course the Scion's are going to be like civic and accord! They have a nice design and are very inexpensive! You will end up seeing a Scion on every corner like you do a civic and accord. Any car that has a nice design and has such an affordable price will obviously sell like crazy! So, expect them to be all over... from the Xb,Xa and Tc and whatever else comes out!

I agree with jade. not everyone will like the XA and Xb. dont forget older people do drive civics and accords as much as younger. plus scion can limit the availability. they know about fads and they dont want the car to die out they rather recieve money continueously then one short burst. The whole market for this car has been researched so it is known that if this car gets to popular it will be uncool and not sell anymore. My deale, who is somewhat friends with the family, has told us they only get so many a month so if someone wants one they dont have (color and such) then they have to trade with other dealers. so this indicates a limit on availibilty. I think toyota has done thier homework and knows what they are doing.

I didn't get my xB to be "Trendy" or "Cool". I got it 'cause it SO PRACTICAL. And lots of OLDER ppl on fixed incomes will get the cause there SO PRACTICAL. And YOUNGIN will get them CAUSE THERE SO PRACTICAL.

If you get on to be cool...get what YOU want to be cool. Being cool is about doing YOUR own thing. Not what some PR REP SELLS YOU COOL ON.

So if YOU LIKE the xB. And YOU think it's COOL. GET ONE. And if you'r part of the herd ... who cares? I don't care WHAT you get. YOUR HAPPY cause you did YOUR thing.

I did get it WHITE so I could COW it...but I woulda got whatever car white so I cudda don't that.

I think you are goona find two groops of ppl geting SCIONS. Youngsters and Oldsters. I think it too gutless for the middle aged folks. IMHO that is.

well only time will tell. The ECHO is just like the Xa ( the Xb mechanically is also similiar) in almost every way except bodystyle. The ECHO is only 10,000 some dollars. so people with xa's can get the same car without all the extra cool stuff for less. But the ECHO has been around for a few years and hasnt been a superstar. So people could buy the Xa because it is a "great car" or an ECHO for less and still have that great car. I fully admit that I buy cars that i think are cool and in doing so a side effect is the attention that I get. I do enter car shows with my Alfa Romeo and it does matter to me that people like it. If everyone hated it i wouldn't get rid of it but the fact that it turns heads is great. heard mentality does matter to me completely. I dont want to have what everyone else has. It is boring, cars are my hobby like painting is to some people. why doesnt everyone paint the same painting? people now days express themselves with cars just like they do with clothing and such. If everyone has the same thing then you no longer are expressing your own self. cars are no longer just modes of transport, if they were I would have a Metro. But I can tell you that I dont believe that the older generation will catch on. By the way did you know the average age of the Scion owner is 35. Since that is the average I guess that shows that at least half the people are right about middle aged huh?

they are pretty low volume to ever be like the civic or the accord or the integra or the camry as far as how many of em and only 3 years per model cuts down on that too

I couldn't "give a rip less" if they become somewhat a common sight...

and what is an old person??? I'm well over Scion's projected age group

Just wait untill you see 2 pink hair'd grannies stop-light drag racing ...you'll laff yer arse off.

hey I live in southern Cali and they are selling like hot Cakes, I mean there is this dealership that sells like close to 5 a day. That has to make you think, and yes they are going to be like a civic ad get modded to hell I know because they are inexspensive cars that young kids can afford or get thier parents to buy for them and they can spend very little money trying to mod them and make them look cool and ____ it up for the rest of us. Soon we will all be getting pulled over for moddifyed exhaust, I have not been puilled over yet in the car and mine is pretty loud but it will happen just like the civics

Wow way to resurrect an old thread.

I saw my first xB down in california, then came up and tried to buy one in seattle but they didn't make it here for 2 more years :/
