Default Question for all CALIFORNIA TURBO CHARGED owners

So, I have been waffling between FI, no FI, SC, tC for over a year now. I mean, for the numbers, turbo charging just seems the logical route to go, but I do live in California. So my question is: What do you Turbo charged tC owners do when it comes to smog? I know most of us haven't had to yet, but what is your plan? Does everyone have "a guy" who's going to pass them illegally?

Supercharger has gone down in price and is looking pretty tasty since it's legal, + you get a warranty. I know it's pretty limited though with adding power. Though, I do say I "only" want something fun to drive..etc..I know once I get something faster, I'm going to want to go faster and faster and even faster.

So guys, whats the plan for the future? If you don't own a turbo charger you can still answer me if you have an answer..

Thanks,
Ericson

I would say most people knows a "guy" or they part out and sell the car before the 6th year.

What he said. Most people that I know that (not necessarily a tC, or even newer cars) that have swaps or parts that aren't CARB approved go to a place where they have a person illegally pass them, or they just "tip" the person a good amount to pass them.

Although, I do have a friend who I helped build a CRX...Integra Type R swap which has passed a BAR inspection with a Greddy Turbo Kit that has a CARB approval. By far the best car we've built that is legit and passes smog with no problems.

I can't say we share the same opinion, but I would rather go with the SC setup. You don't have to deal with finding a "guy", you don't void your warranty, you get a nice boost and if you ever want to, you can put a pulley kit on it and upgrade a bit. Plus, although unlikely now compared to a few years ago, if you get pulled over a cop checks out your stuff and sees that it is CARB approved then you get a fun fix-a-ticket.

I've even had a few friends who would sell their cars before they had to have them smogged again and even a friend who went as far to have a spare engine just for smog reasons.

Well...

No turbo is CARB legal, but I might be able to pass smog w/ my cat in the midpipe.

There is a greddy turbo that had a carb approval on it, I've read the paperwork of the carb approval and its applications. Although the price for it was a lot more then any normal turbo kit.

Unless I am mistaken, but I am almost certain about it.

Some websites say that the GReddy kit is CARB certified but that's because GReddy themselves say that all their turbo kits are CARB legal. Don't trust them. To be sure always check CARB's website. There's no turbo kit that's CARB legal for the tC.

yeah only on some cars is the Greddy kit legal, for us it isn't because the cat is on the headers which is removed. just make some honda friends and you'll eventually meet "the guy" who can pass you your smog..
