Default just bought a jl 1000.1, now what sub?

as the title states, i just bought a jl 1000.1 amp and now im trying to decide on what sub to go with. i would love to do a w7 but thats just not going to happen for 2 reasons, 1, money lol. and 2, space. i want to put 1 12 in a smaller box, im considering the 12w6 and the alpine type-x. ive never heard the type x so any opinions on that would be appriciated. im also open to other suggestions. thanks in advance!

What do you listen to? How loud? Who's the installer, and what's the installer's skill level? What's the rest of your system? What's your budget?

The W6 is a fantastic subwoofer, and IMO, more musical than the Type X. Of course, there are other options, but I think there's enough reasons to stick with the W6v2...

like i said, i would love to go with a w7, but theres no way im shelling over those kind of clams right now.

i listen to everything from rap to trance to rock. i usually listen to it pretty loud, my budget for the woofer is around 400 no more.

Of the two you listed I would go with the W6v2. I would actually take the W6v2 over the W7.

Did you read what the OP said??? Your response is worthless. Nobody cares about "punding" either - whatever that is...

Great. I suggest a sealed enclosure for the 12W6v2. It won't eat up your precious trunk space, play "fast enough" (re: 'transient response') for trance, be easy to build, and have a smooth, musical response for the bass lines in rap. Trust me, it'll get loud too! You can always add a 2nd 12W6v2 in the future when you upgrade your CD player and speakers!

Take a look at the SI Mag
stereointegrity.com

Very nice sub. Gets loud and sounds great.

You're right. It IS rated for a higher RMS power than the single 12W6v2 can theoretically handle. This shouldn't be a problem, as long as you don't get stupid with the gain control, and push the sub beyond it's limits.

The truth is that you're never using that much power. SPL is logarithmic, meaning to double the output (3dB), requires 2X as much power. You start with 0dB, and build from there. You'll quickly run out of speaker excursion (especially at lower frequencies) than power. It's also not a bad thing to have "too much" power. Dynamic headroom is always good!

yeah just don't play it a clip signal....

If JL is to much for you, check out other stuff like SI mag, FI Q, RE SE, ID Q, a few others.... stick in a pair of 10s with lower power handling and call it a day if you want. That FI Q will eat up 1K watts and spit it out without a sweat...

I can second that notion with the FI SSD Q or BL, heard them all and owned the BL. But the Q can give good SQ.

i checked out the Q and it seems like a great bang for the buck. but really, whats everyones opinion on the MTX 9500. i can get a really good deal on one and if its a superior sub then thats what i want to get. maybe rocketgyrl can chime in again? she seems quite knowlegable.
