I don't know why it couldn't. If you consider the _STOCK_ Honda 18C1 engine, which debuted in '92 with the same valve technology, put out 170 peak hp. This engine should put out 225 hp normally aspirated from the factory. The power is there to be had somewhere. It may require more aggressive cams or a freer exhaust but it's shouldn't be difficult. It may have small intake valves or some other designed limitation, but 200 should be possible without resorting to forced induction. 9 HP from an intake may be possible.

proof it shows that the stock air filter is very restrictive... now get a complete air flow going with headers and exhuast and that should help a lot...

You really can't compare the honda gsr motor and the 2az in the xb2. One is a small displacement high compression motor that loves to rev. The other is a big 4 cylinder low compression motor that makes its power in the midrange. And a SRI is making more power than a CAI??

I think 9 horsepower is a reasonable claim.

Is that the most a CAI can do. Any other brand that can go higher i.e 10hp or 15hp?

LOL they aren't crap, old technology but they'll still put out some power if you boost them. That's like saying an LS1 is crap because the LS3 is out now . Oh and the k-series is a good motor, until you get to the tranny. By far the crappiest tranny out there. Go on honda-tech.com and see how many people are complaining about 2nd/3rd gear grinds & it popping out of gear.

I'm shocked it even put of that much on this motor. If you want more get a header, probably the best bolt-on out their for an engine.

There's a little more to it than that. It's out actual heads, the valve angle in ours is set up more for fuel economy than power(hence the F in FE)

A good example of hp output for displacement is the Corolla/Celica/Matrix engines though. The Celica GT has a 1zz-fe that only makes like 130hp, the 2zz-ge makes 170+ though. Both are 1.8L 4 cyls.

If they were to put out a 2AZ-GE then I would so swap to that head. If they made it I imagine the stock output would be somewhere in the 200hp range, which could easily be increased by putting on intake, header, and exhaust.

Still considering the low hp output from out engines I imagine there's a lot of potential. I think if you built a custom head you could easily net 190+ to the wheels.

the new motors can hold ALOT more boost and produce ALOT more hp without touching internals also they respond better to bolt ons.. mine hit over 300whp with no knocking or tranny problems at all and your right b18's arn't complete crap i owned one... but i did test drive automatic 08 xb and was suprised with low end torque and pick up where's most of the power at? and the VVTI? or w/e its called is that similar to vtec with the variable valve timing?

VVTI is more similar to the base model Rsx & EP3 Civic hatch i-vtec. VVTI-L that came in the GTS Celica & XRS Corolla & Matrix is more similar to VTEC.

"but i did test drive automatic 08 xb and was suprised with low end torque and pick up where's most of the power at?"

I'm not understanding, are you asking something or stating? If I understood correct, then yes the XB has enough torque to be a good DD 4-banger. I've found that its power range is between 3-5k RPMs.
