Age old question S/C or Turbo
I have a 05 tC. I want to go with FI so I pose this question. S/C or Turbo. I know you all have heard this a thousand times, so whats one more.
I am leaning towards S/C for these reasons.
1. Warranty
2. I have DC Headers that I just put on this winter(would be nice to keep them)
3. I have heard that a S/C is easier on a daily driver.
4. I do like the HP boost but I am not one to go extreme(not that interested in getting 300+HP) may go up to 9psi.
5. Less expensive, less to maintain(dont get me wrong i know its a lot of work either way, but less parts, less to go wrong?)
What do you all think. Am i right that a S/C is easier on a daily driver? I have DC headers and AEM intake less than 2 months on the car, should I keep both if i go S/C(modify CAI for S/C), or would it be cost effective to sell them to help fund for turbo? I have heard that the early version of the TRD S/C was plagued a lot more with problems, is it worth it? If i get a turbo are there a lot more hidden costs for add ons that would not be necessary with a S/C?
I would like your opinions. More than just saying "go S/C" or "go turbo" would be helpful. If you have an opinion on which way I should go, please tell me why you prefer one to the other.
Thanks a lot,
-Brian
P.S. - I have used the search button, I have done a lot of research, just trying to get info specific to my situation. Thanks!

On the WAY more fun, its debatable. I dont have either but i plan to go S/C cuz of warranty and once its up it has potential. I think u should get rid of the CAI cuz i heard that an intake on the blower can void its warranty, and any pully's u add to it of course. I will be doing all that but once my warranty is up. The only thing i would add on the blower immediately is a new BPV proll the bosch 110
unless you have connections with people that work at dealerships, they may or may not uphold the warranty if you leave your header on and something goes wrong because they might say the problem was caused by the header. you will have to remove your intake because it isnt compatible with the s/c unless you modify it to fit. and if you do that, then you may be running lean (on stock boost). if you do decide to leave the intake on and up the boost to 9.5lbs (go with NST), then you will definitely be running lean and will need to tune the car to run it safely.
it's more DD friendly..for the most part. you still have to check oil levels regularly and there have been some cases where people had to have their s/c's replaced with the warranty. nothing's perfect. hope this helps.

On the tC the S/C with the NST 9.5lb pulley is pretty f'ing fun. I love mine and I wouldn't trade it. That said I've driven a few turboed tCs and they're pretty fun too. The up side to the S/C is that you don't have to worry about extra engine management, dyno runs and expensive tuning with the 9.5lb pulley.

You just voided the "warranty" when you mentioned adding a 9 PSI pulley, DC Headers, and an Intake.
plus, Turbotoyotas has a "backyard brawler" turbo kit for $1999, or a bisik kit for $2500, so the SC is not that much cheaper...and deffinatley not when you start leaking oil and blow your motor.
The thing is, you say the older SC were plaged with issues...and you have an 05, so you will probably get one of those older SC that have been sitting around, plagued with issues.

Trust us....turbo is way more fun...
OK, remember this, all the bolt ons for the SC, pullys and what not, can get the SC up to maybe 240whp. Great, and it increasess the entire power band...nice...however, you only get 240whp at redline! So when will you ever really see 240? Right before you shift?
A smaller turbo can reach full boost at around 3500rpm giving you plenty of room to play with the full power.

Yea, my friend`s 750WHP Prelude, is so crazy, you can't even touch the dash. Man, its nuts. Only been it one time for a pull and wasn't even a long one, so yea turbos are much better
