Default TRD S/C + Mods? Or Turbo Kit?

I am sure with a turbo that is tuned for REALLY high PSI might normally rate better than the TRD S/C, but those of you who HAVE the S/C, how do you like it? Is it understandable to go with the S/C? Or is turbo the only way to go if your going FI?

If you're all Fast and Furious and want straight line speed, go turbo, this isn't the s/c's strong suit.

If you want to auto-x and/or do circuit/road racing, the s/c does pretty good, but this type of racing is more driving skills than power. A nicely setup turbo is good for auto-x and road courses too.

I like the s/c and haven't had any problems from it. I'm able to give a lot of people a good run for the money in stoplight battles (first to 60mph or 10mph over the speed limit, never more). It's great for daily driving and makes the drive a lot more fun over stock. I'm looking to get more into auto-x and taking my car to the road course. Drag racing wasn't all that thrilling for me.

BTW, you'll get a lot of bias from a lot of people to go turbo, and a lot of s/c bashing on this site.

Depends, do you like your warranty or dont mind not having one on your motor?

I like my s/c, everyone that has taken a ride in my car, also likes the s/c. Its got a cool whine to it, and at 4.5k, with my forge 007 makes this cool " pssssttting!" *then shift* noise. Not like the vent off of a turbo, but you can tell that its a big difference. NST also makes a pulley (read - void warranty) that can pump out a total of 9.5lbs on the TRD tune. approx 225hp. Add a custom engine tune, and a exhaust. Your good to go! IceNine has (or had) a 311whp S/C setup - my goal is a easy driving 240-250hp.

The S/C also comes with bigger fuel injectors, and a bunch of other parts, and of course can be dealer installed.

What are you even doing in the FI section captain Intake and exhaust? Hey hey check me out I have an intake and an axel back exhaust. Its interesting you said you raced to over 100mph, then you said you did it at a strip. Problem is your car isnt going to be breaking 100mph in a 1/4th mile with the mods you have. So care to reword your story scooter?

not really jack ___,its midnight drags, you know kinda like a open forum, race whatever car you want, who you want, when you want.on our strip theres two exits after the finish the first is for slower cars, witch on any other night they want slower cars to exit on.the second is for rail cars, witch on a midnight drag night they could care less if you use it,as long as your off the track before the next race starts.its not as organized as a regular et night, they just want people to hurry, and when you've been racing there for 10 years, and they know you well, they dont really care.so maybe its more like 90mph,wow my bad, point was they dont pass me untill the race is over.care to insert your foot in your mouth? and im in the fi section so that i can decide what form of fi im going with, whats wrong with that? im actually researching all my options before i mod my car/or post stupid questions that have been asked a billion times.

if your thinking turbo, which is cool, think about this thread
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=210796

and then when it happens (not saying it will) the warranty brings a lot of piece of mind to the FI experience

The thing is I Originally just wanted to be an NA screamer. I have a full layout of parts right now that, after I get the propper tuning on my motor should push about 235 to the wheels give or take about 5 hp. Now what I was trying to get to is if I were to just go ahead and throw the S/C on along with that (which wouldnt make me get rid of all of the bolt ons) and then re-tune the motor, am I going to be THAT much worse off with that set up over a turbo? OR would a S/C + mods+ propper tuning stand up to a turboed tC?

Oh and P.S. to those of you who are talking about the 07 SI above, with just the few bolt ons I have right now, I have NEVER lost against ANY SI new and old. Then again I never raced and SI with FI just exhaust/intake mod. But still...

the supercharger with a few add bits would probably be more daily drivable than a n/a setup that could push that kinda power.plus getting 235whp out of a allmotor setup will cost big $$$.

It all depends on what all you are going to be doing to make your car a "NA screamer." If upping the compression rating is a part of making your NA power then that is completely in the wrong direction for future F/I expansion. Regardless if you go s/c or turbo, you're going to enjoy the newfound power that your tC is putting out. Ultimately it comes down to your personality type. If you are the type that gets addicted to things easily, then the s/c would probably become lacking after several months and there are only a limited amount of things you can do with the Vortec unit to make it more powerful.

The benefit of the s/c, of course, is the ability to retain your factory warranty [so long as you don't swap the pulley.] The cons of the s/c, as I mentioned above, is the limited options for expansion. Take what you read on these forums as informationl only. Everyone here will spout off their opinion, whether it's nutthugging or factual. Remember, it's all about what you want to do and what you think about your car. We are just a vessel providing you some ideas of where you can go and what you can do!

I personally went with the S/C just because I had an 08 tC and I wanted to keep my factory warranty. I really enjoy the S/C, it makes my driving experience much more fun. I have not driven a turbo tC so I cant say which I think is better! But the factory backed S/C for me was the way to go!
