View Full Version : Aftermarket L.E.D. Tails
mill0048 11-16-2004, 01:48 AM I was trolling thru my bro's Truckin' mag and one of the ads was for these awsome L.E.D. tailights from this company called PartsNgo (www.partsngo.com). Long story short, I contacted Jeffrey Tavares there and he said they planned on making them for the xB in about 2 months or so. Here's what some of their other L.E.D. tails look like: http://www.partsngo.com/newproducts.html. Passing it on...
Ghost_1 11-16-2004, 02:08 AM I work for my father who happens to own an auto repair garage. As his service writer I get magazines like Import parts & accessories. When I was flipping through one the other day I saw an aftermarket company called IPCW, they make a set of L.E.D. tail lights for the xB. I went searching for them on the internet and came up with nothing. I do however have a picture of them from the magazine. I'll see if I can get them posted one of these days.
bB2NER 11-16-2004, 02:11 AM GREAT HEADS UP, I know where I'm getting my tails from now THANKS MUCH!! 8)
KevinxB 11-16-2004, 02:25 AM I'd definitely get them if they came smoked or black (preferred). No Altezza style. Good prices, too. Tell them to sign me up!
mill0048 11-16-2004, 02:28 AM The link for IPCW is on the PartsNgo website. Somewhere on the bottom middle of the main page... wait... http://www.ipcw.com/ I don't see the Scions on there at all (not even under Toyota). Maybe they are slow to update the website.
bB2NER 11-16-2004, 02:36 AM These are 2. 2. 2 tails in one. wanted euros and liked LEDs. I love it!
kuzikan 11-16-2004, 03:26 AM yeah IPCW prolly wont update till the first of the year the shop I work at buys from them so I will give them a call soon to see what is up....
Max2k 11-16-2004, 04:01 AM Oh jesus, please no atrocious chrome tail lights. I have nothing but love for LEDs but please don't make awful chromed to death tail lights.
Inframan 11-16-2004, 10:58 AM If they come out definitely smoked. I don't think chrome would look good on any xB. It would save me alot of time on a project I'm considering, adding leds to factory tails.
cmdxb 11-16-2004, 12:36 PM one of our members works at port and gts extra stock parts...considering doing something similar to Inframan's idea w an extra set of tails....
VanillaRice 11-16-2004, 02:47 PM Oh jesus, please no atrocious chrome tail lights. I have nothing but love for LEDs but please don't make awful chromed to death tail lights.
Ditto!!
KevinxB 11-16-2004, 03:31 PM The other tails they make come in chrome, black and smoked. I like the black. But I'd do smoked, too. No chrome, though. I wonder how much electrical reworking is involved with these? Its not like Altezzas where you just plug the old bulbs in a new tail light. Anyone have a clue?
beioski 11-16-2004, 03:49 PM I like these lights and the prices, but are they available for the xb? This post confuses me. Scionlife has finally gotten the better of me.
KevinxB 11-16-2004, 03:54 PM The guy said in the first post that he contacted the company and they said that they will have tails for the xB.
kuzikan 11-16-2004, 04:04 PM we sold a set for a new escalade at work, and it is a plug and play application all the electronics and stuff are built into the taillight housing
KevinxB 11-16-2004, 04:22 PM Were they made by the same company that mill0048 is talking about? If so, great. I hope they get them on the market soon. I'm very interested.
mill0048 11-16-2004, 05:02 PM I e-mailed Jeff again showing him a link to this thread (and the main site) so he can see the interest in the tails. I also asked if they plan to offer them smoked. We'll see when I get home tonite what he says. I hope they offer a 'normal-ish' red version, smoked version or others, but I don't think so. It seems that on all their lights they only do a smoked or chrome. I'll keep ya'll informed.
the_saint 11-16-2004, 05:25 PM Anybody know where to get these

To me THAT is what LED tails should look like. Not the Mr. Roboto stuff that all these companies come out with.

"Installation should be the same as others that we are currently selling, like Altima. Just plug and play. Right now we only know there is a Chrome housing coming out. If I find out other than Chrome, I will let you know."
On the other hand, those LED bB tail lamps are going for about $750 dollars... so if you think it's worth it, go for it. I was going to get them, but I've decided that buying a stock housing for $50 and spending about $100 in parts to make my own LED tail lamps would be much cheaper.

I saw these on yahoo.co.jp the auction area.
the_saint 11-16-2004, 06:00 PM I saw these on yahoo.co.jp the auction area.
Yeah, but it's supposed to be nearly impossible to win stuff off the Japanese auctions unless you go through one of those broker people. Then you have to pay them along with the price of the part and don't forget freight from Japan. Ontop of all that, I don't know if customs would hold it up too.
So, even if you could get them for less that $750   it would still be a big headache getting them.

Ugh. Chrome SUCKS! Make black or smoked!
Turbosnow 11-16-2004, 09:18 PM rice.....nuff said
Max2k 11-16-2004, 09:46 PM I bet you could pay someone to LED your tails for you for less than $300 with all parts included. For those looking into doing it themselves, I submit this link:

Don't get me wrong, those LED's are sweet and all, but they are the most basic design. The 'Mr. Roboto stuff' is advancing the design to the next level and incorporating depth.
I too planned on makeing my own very similar to the ones you showed, and still might depending on the end product of PartsNgo's tails. But I'll be damned if I'm doing a simple three/four rectangle design.
uncompiled 11-17-2004, 12:52 AM Wow, that helps a lot. :)
KevinxB 11-17-2004, 01:24 AM I don't care what style they are. As long as they're LED and they're not chrome, I'll probably buy a set.
uncompiled 11-17-2004, 02:24 AM Ricer!!! LOL, who am I to talk? I'm the one that went to great lengths to find the Japanese ones. ;)
KevinxB 11-17-2004, 03:00 AM :P
chrome=ricer
black/smoke=tastefuler
So are you getting the JDM ones or making them yourself?
windowtint 11-17-2004, 03:40 AM disassembled and color matched to car = more tastefuller
mill0048 11-17-2004, 12:10 PM Also, if they only make them in chrome, you can just 'tint' them red/smoked like many people are doing to their stock lights. :D

I would prefer that LED taillights do what LEDs do best, not try to mimic the rear end of a Buck Rogers spaceship. The taillights pictured here look like they were made for LEDs!
George
mill0048 11-17-2004, 10:18 PM LEDs are made to light up. I don't see how either design fails in that respect. I see what you mean though, too futuristic for you. That's cool. You like things a wee more plain/to-the-point. :)
Anyway, here's the latest:

Straight from Jeff... Now all we gotta do is wait...

KevinxB 11-17-2004, 11:59 PM 6 months....I thought it was 2! Oh well. At least they're making black.
