I like the style and the Toyota quality. The price is great and 30-35 mpg is where it's at, but am I too old for one of these? Would I look like i'm driving my son's car or what.
thanks for your input

Ask me in 15 years. Seriously though. Who cares what others think. I like the car, and others who bought the car, like the car. I've seen the whole age range driving Scions. So they must like Scions also.

well, I'm 16, and my dad is 50, and he paid for it, and he doesn't look bad at all driving it. go for it. our salesman told us the first one they sold was to a 75 y.o. woman for its' ease of getting into and out of.

Go for it man! xBs are great no matter the driver's age. They're a higher quality vehicle, that gets good MPG, is easy to work on / maintain, and they are absolutely one of the, if not THE, best car you can buy for the money. This car is truly a wise investment.

Just remember to get the Goldline Springs and the 19's....the chicks at the bingo halls and the nursing homes go CRAZY for the 19's!

Just kidding! (I'm 30)

Seriously, We would welcome you to the family with open arms

:? Come to think of it, most of the people I see driving xBs around here are older (40ish). Most of the young pups get their parents to buy them a tC. Here in Houston, I don't see as many, in general, as I feel I should. I'm biased though. In all seriousness, 2 out of 3 vehicles on the road in Houston, excluding comercial vehicles, are either an SUV or a full size P/U. It's getting out of hand. In my xB, I feel tiny sitting in between a couple F250 Diesels w/ rebel flags in the rear windows.

I'm sorry, I've strayed off the subject.

Buy one, Sir :!: You truly won't regret it :!:

True... Peoples going through MLC tend to purchase 2 seaters with speed (ie. Porsche Boxter, Mazda Miata, Chevy Corvette, etc.). This is definetely not a vehicle with speed!

We have one customer-true story-He is pretty old and unfortunately will not be with us for very long. He bought an xB, and loves driving it-We see him all over Michigan. Anyway he shows off his car, loves talking to people and is a total car nut-really cool guy. Seeing him smile when he's rolling on the road cant be expressed in words.

The only objection that Olde Folkes seem to have with the xB is the ride. If you can live with that, go for it!

The one thing that my older friends really like about the xB is the ease of entry and exit. Very important for those with joint problems!

I'm 55 and have had my camo xB for a month. Most people my age think it's stupid looking and is a "high school kids car" Most people who are somewhat to significantly younger think it's cool.

I say the calendar doesn't matter as much as a frame of mind. I hope to keep my mind into the "cool" stuff and out of "old-foggy-land" for as long as possible.

Hope this is helpful.

Joe_M
11-17-2004, 11:08 PM
Disappointed??? Absolutely not! Mazda reported, at first, that it had 250 hp then later lowered it to 238. I sure didn't buy the car for straight line speed, if I had wanted that there are a lot more cars that could have given me that. I bought it for the looks and handling (and the rear seat). The 300Z TT that I had would have eaten the 8 for breakfast but it is best overall sports car that I have owned. My only complaint is the gas milage ~16-17 city, 20-21 highway. But if I want milage, I drive the xB. It's funny, I get a lot of questions about the 8 from "car people" and a ton more questions about the xB from EVERYONE.

Oh, and by the way, I hope marcelino wasn't talking about me when he said they had sold a "pretty old guy" that "wouldn't be with us for very long" an xB recently. I did buy my xB from his dealership.... :D

Most people dont really know that scion is targetted at the youth market. I see a lot of older people driving xBs especially. More than tCs or xAs. Youre fine. Something like that would not even be a factor in my decision, especially if I liked the car.

I am 60 and have had my xB for 2 weeks and really love it. Last night I went to an auto parts store and they happened to be having a car meet in the parking lot.

When I drove in to go to the store, the "Moderator" saw my car, and asked me to join the "line-up". There were a lot of guys in their teens & 20's in their modified Honda's, etc. with NOS tanks, gull-wing doors, and another type of up-swivel doors, (I don't know what you call them), strobe lights, graphics, LED lights, among other mods.... it was the whole nine yards

When the other participants saw my car, they all flocked to it like bee's on honey, asking all kinds of questions... it was the first time they had ever seen an xB.... I felt like a celebrity... h'mmm should I have asked for a trophy or ribbon?

I'm a 55 year old and never thought that I was too old, but having the xB sure makes me feel younger.

I know that in my younger years music played a major part in my life. We experienced some of the greatest stuff when we were in our 20s. If music is a priority to you, you'll most definitely appreciate the sound system in the car. Great way to listen to your collection, especially with the mp3 player.

Age is only a number and you are only as old as you feel. Remember that the only person in life one is here to please is yourself! If it's something you want that badly, I say go for it! The smooth ride, great gas mileage and head turning appearance will be enough to stoke you for years..

also very popular with ___ people, was at the dealer for routine service and three ___ people in xB (rainbow stickers on the bumpers) where their as well. Scion does advertise on ___ sites and for good reason a very large sales potential

Funny you should say they are popular with ___ people. I'm taking delivery on my Xb prob Friday this week. I signed up on Yahoo for a group called Men of Scion, but most of the owners seem to be TCers driving Azure Pearl. No response from the moderator, and it's been about a week: "awaiting approval from the 200-character resume I submitted. Yeah, you can tell alot about yourself in 200 character or less. :eyebrow:

So far there are 38 or so members nationwide. If the mod doesn't get busy and sign new members up quickly, the group's gonna evaporate like Ben Affleck's film "career." :loser:

Rainbow stickers are so done btw imho :P

In Colorado you have to be careful about assuming a rainbow sticker indicating a member of the LGBT community. If you're near Boulder, it could indicate a hippie gone yuppie in the 'burbs, flying the flag for WORLD PEACE!

NO, I don't live in Boulder but I do play a ___ man in my everday life: celebrating 25 years of being out in November 2005!

Staying on topic I will add my thoughts:

I'm 39 and ditching my Volvo S60 for an Xb: fell in love with it after a test drive and several weeks of admiring them "a la distance" around town. I think the Xb is a great package of unique design, Toyota quality and a great value for the price! Have shared driving our 2004 Prius for the past year and have enjoyed it. Even thought of buying one for myself until I got SCION FEVER!

So what if you're 55? Age really is just a number and everyone knows 70 is the new 40! :P

Take heart: my mom just turned 74 and she's been driving her Miata for almost 6 years and loves it! She has never driven the typical housewife car since I can remember. Started out in the 50s with a Mercedes sedan, then a Corvair, followed by a 64 1/2 Mustang hardtop in Honey Gold, then a 69 Cutlass Super Supreme droptop in Gold, then a 79 VW Super Beetle convertible ( the last year for the original beetle from Karmann Motor Works) in Triple White, an '85 Camaro hardtop, then her 94 Miata. She sold her Camaro to a 16 year old guy a few years ago and it only had 55K miles on it: he was beside himself that he was buying from a woman old enuf to be his grandmother.

ENJOY the Scion way of life I say!

53 with RS 2.0 for about three months now. Love it. Often get comments that it suits me. Let's see, MLC? I doubt I'll live to 110 (or 106).
