View Full Version : Best Rear Sway Bar?

I'm looking to add a rear sway bar on my tC. But I can't decide which one to get. I've heard of TRD, Hotchkis, WhiteLines, and Progress Tech rear sway bars. Which would be the best one to get for my tC?

I already have the TRD lowering springs on. I don't know if that's makes a difference or not. Should I just stick with TRD?

Thanks!

What other suspension mods do you have on your car? Isn't the thicker the bar the better? So should I just go with the thickest?

i'm planning on getting the TRD rear sway bar soon too. I've seen it in person...and it is visually thicker than the stock and alot heavier. Although it's not visible from the ground up...it's bright red and should help u in turns. I think they retail for about $110.

Yes, which makes it the best and the worst, and everything in between.

Hotchkis will have front and rear bars out soon which are substantially stiffer. I like my TRD rear bar a lot, but I'm definitely interested in the Hotchkis bars as well.

the TRD sway bar can be had for about 75 dollars.

competitive bars in the future will probably retail for twice as much, so i'm sticking with the TRD.

works well too.

other than the TRD rear sway, ive got H&R springs, Front strut bar, TRD shocks
and nice aftermarket wheels with wide tires

its not alot of work, but it does the trick for now..nice and low
handles great

where at? The cheapest I've found the TRD bar was $79 I think

so it wouldn't be worth waiting for other bars? I can hold out if better bars will come out soon. anyone have any idea when they will be out?

Just curious, but why did you go with the H&R springs instead of the TRD springs, if you went TRD with everything else? Don't the TRD springs work in conjunction with the TRD shocks? I really have no idea just wondering :?:

the TRD springs i don't like, cuz i haven't seen them drop the car enough...only reason

the H&R springs ride really nice and drop it a good amount, but its not low enough for me...im gettin the Goldline springs in a week, drop it alil over 2inches

Which H&R springs do you have the "OE Sport" or "Sport" springs? How much more of a drop do they give you compared to the TRD springs? Do you think they will work the stock shocks?

im gettin the Goldline springs in a week, drop it alil over 2inches Your gonna be LOW lol. I take it you have rims (or I hope so) Stock rims with a 2inch drop looks crapy. The back is always to low for some reason. I was going to go with a 2 inch drop but with my kit and all I would only have 1 inch of clearence.

that's wat i'm talking about... Goldline springs are surprisingly comfortable with aggressive 2" drop. Chk out my ride..i have the Goldline prototype springs... loving it.

i love ridin low...i have the 18" Axis MOD 7's w/maxis lip on my car....
its lookin low now, just want a lil lower, thats all

it will have the stock wheels on in the winter(the salt messes everything up around here)--so ill have to deal with the saggy back until spring, don't really care though

when i get my carbon fiber kit on, i will have not too much clearance, but oh well

i went to tirerack and found the H&R sport springs

dropped the car about 1.6 but it says it will drop only 1.4

it will work with the stock shocks, but i got the TRD shocks a week after i had the springs in...it dropped it a lil more actually

check out www.tirerack.com

they should have them for good price

you have a pic of your tC with this setup? It dropped the rear and front by both 1.6? if its the same one you have in the profile it looks almost like the TRD spring drop. nice car by the way.

so the TRD shocks dropped it a little more? how much?

ScionBandit

on the tC;s ive seen, the TRD springs only dropped the car like 1.2 or so

the front(with stock tires on) is about 1.6 and the rear is like 1.5 or so

with the wheels it doesn't look as low...just how it is

puttin the TRD shocks on(despite wut others say) does help the car settle/lower more, but not a drastic amount, but u can tell

i don't have a good pic with my stock tires on and the springs

ill try and find one or put them on and take one for you

so how big of a finger gap do you have now? and before you took out the stock tires if you remember. i would love to see pics. i wanted something lower than the TRD springs but I don't want to damage the stock shocks. i was thinking about getting the TRD shocks but i don't know if i should just wait for something else or get them now. they are pretty cheap right now.

sparks is running hot deals on pacakages. makes me almost wish i had waited to do the drop. i have about a finger gap in the rear, and about a 2 finger gap in the front, but thats with 18's and 40 series. thinking about dropping the front a bit more to even it out, but now i am curious to see it done with the shock swap as well.

ScionBandit
11-18-2004, 03:17 AM
the gap i have now with the aftermarket wheels/tires is not even two fingers...

with the stock tires it was bout the same

any set of springs that doesn' t lower ur car TOO much wont' damage ur stock shocks....if u go too low it can damage the shocks/struts unless u get stronger ones...

I thought this was about sway bars?

Anyway, I've seen a couple places listing the Hotckis sway bar kits now. If they aren't shipping (which they certainly might be) then they're coming very soon.

I have the TRD rear sway bar and am very happy with it. I have to take a turn very hard to notice any body roll. in those corners I have more body roll than my car does.
