Default Rear wipre switch

For thouse of you who have removed the rear wiper i have a question as i will be doing the same this weekend.

When you disconect the power plug from the wiper motor are you left with a 12v source ?
I was thinking about hooking up the LED's in my box to this power source. And then when i wont to turn on the LED's all i have to do is turn the rear wiper switch to the on position, and you have lights!!!!

It sounds cool to me, and you dont have to worry about mounting a switch.

Dose any think it will work, or has anyone done this in there box?

Adam

Use that 12 v power source as purley a switch. Meaning take that 12v to a relay as the remote switch then hook up your led's or whatever your wanting to power to the other end of the relay so that when you turn on the rear window wiper it activates the relay passsing constant 12 v power to whatever power source you choose.

what would be the purpose of the reley if the wiper was getting 12v constant when it was powered? Led's take less voltage to power then a wiper motor. Not trying to slam you, please don't take it that way. Is the power going to the disconnected wiper motor not 12v constant - is it variable current or something? I have tons of Led's hooked up, and i have never had to use a relay and everything works fine.. Should i be expecting a fire in my box? are my wires slowly melting?

No if your going to do it for just led's as long as you dont have like 2 million hooked up your fine but something that takes a higher draw in power I wouldnt use the rear wiper wiring to power.

I am too conservative at times though

Keep in mind, the rear wiper is switched ground, not switched power. This may or may not affect your plans to use this as a switched power source, depending how you wire.

Only switch I made was to go from a blue LED to a red one.
