Is that all it is just those two pieces? I was expecting it to be like a complete short shifter assembly. Will the shifter be shorter or will it stay the same but reduce the throws?

I think it's something similar to the short shifter for the xD that NST makes.

From the first post, sounds like it's the same shifter, just the pieces underside of the boot will change. I'm looking to shorten my shifter too, not just the throws.

whitebreadbox
03-01-2008, 08:02 PM
the shifter WILL stay the same. the 2 blocks change the pull/push ratio of the shift cables by changing the leverage point. i'd like mine shortened too and can do it at work, but i'd like to see how this helps things out first.

seen a guy somewhere just take a dye to his shifter to lengthen the threads an inch and a half and cut the top inch and ahalf off

does it come with shift knob?
the accessories catlog shows that it comes with the shift knob.

that would be sweet for the price, but i didn't see anything on sparks that said it came with one... but, when i get it, i'll let everyone know. i emailed ken from sparks today and he said that he's awaiting his shipment from the manufacturer and then he'll ship mine (and i'm sure a bunch of others) out.

I doubt that it will come with a new knob seeing that the first post says it uses the OEM lever and knob.

I will post pictures when I install mine, should be Thursday. I am looking to mod the lever if it sticks at the same height as stock.

L337Biker
03-05-2008, 04:05 PM
well this "quick shifter" doesn't change anything on the interior of the car.. so the lever will be at the same height. it just changes how long the throw is at the actual transmission end

All of the units are currently located at the large warehouses with a handful 'in transit' to the local ones. I have a handful on order and they are all back ordered until 3/12 (including yours, Chris). Sometimes part numbers are released and are "available", but the release still is at the hand of the actual warehouses shipping them -_-

There are currently 9 backorders to the Los Angeles area (5 are mine), and 2 are on the way ( those 2 are promised to Chris and a local buyer). Hopefully the balance will arrive on the 12th also.

$115 shipped, once they're in stock. =]

Ahh, I see. It'll be a crunch. You may want to have them double check their backorder ETA on it, just in case. Though it's not always 100% accurate, you'll at least have an idea of when it'll be sent out to you.

how much did u cut off. what about the threads?

about two inches i believe...and i had to modify the know a bit...but you would never know... i don't have pic's for all the steps but i took the stock knob off, hacked the stick about two inches. smoothed the edges on it... drilled the thread on the inside of the knob out so that it would firmly, and i mean firmly sit on the newly cut stick, and the top shift pattern was fastened via ...i don't remember what but its not tape :p so that it doesn't fall out... throws are shorter...well just movements of my wrist..

also i had to modify the large white ring so that it would still hold my shift boot and not be obtrusive to the placement of the knob. i cut a square in the middle of it to firmly fit over the lower portion of the shift lever...it works very well, nothings loose...nothing rattles, nothings broken :p

I have your #, so hopefully it's here tomorrow before noon. If not, I can take it to the show... Usually ETAs are overestimated and the items come sooner... this one gotted lagged pretty badly.

whitebreadbox
04-04-2008, 10:10 PM
i got mine installed last weekend. finally got the clip to work for me after a lot of 4 letter words and leaving some skin and blood in the engine bay. the shift throw is amazing now as far as the distance... its notchy as hell and i'm not sure if i'm going to keep it installed or not. its also harder (more force required) to go thru the gears, which will end up wearing out the ball the shifter pivots on way faster. does anyone know of an actual short shift lever coming out??? i'd like to give that one a go and put the linkage back to the stock location just to see which one's better!

to those of you "riding the fence", this is my own opinion. i was expecting better shifting qualities, not just a shorter throw...

Looks like I'll be skipping this mod & be waiting for a "real" short throw shifter assembly.

XD40tC
04-15-2008, 05:58 PM
So yeah I dont like this anymore and if anyone wants to buy it from me I'll let it go for $90 shipped... I love the feel of the shorter throws but it seems harder to get into 2nd when Im flooring it and Ive embarassed myself several times already... Its just waaay too notchy and I wish TRD would have improved the actual shifter itself rather than just the linkage which doesnt seem to have anything to do with the feel.

On a second note I really hate the xB's transmission. I hate the clutch and I hate the shifter! I might sell this car lol. I want to get something more performance oriented and I should have done so in the first place.

I noticed rubber bushings on the linkage and it was quite soft. Would upgrading these to some solid metal pieces make the notchiness go away? I feel like it has to do with the actual shifter... Any ideas?

On 07Jun08, the TRD Quick Shifter kit was installed on my white '08 xb2.

^ what do you mean combined with the short throw if so pm with some part number and i will purchase them

XD40tC
06-09-2008, 10:19 PM
Yeah paired together they make the perfect difference. The short throw alone is cool but brings out more of the gear engagement issues. After bushings there are no issues and some of the notchiness goes away. Dont get the TRD kit without getting the bushings. NST, Doc I, and Corsport all make bushings.

I got the new one that new scion parts has on their site that comes with the carbon fiber shift knob. I ran it for a few days without the knob and then installed the knob. Big difference with the knob. I know it sounds stupid but the knob is weighted and helps smooth out the notches a little bit. May sound dumb but made a difference to me.

Schmohey

Is it worth getting this TRD Quickshifter or should I wait for the NST one?

Schmohey

Okay I ordered one... hopefully it'll arrive by Thanksgiving. I'll give my input on it after getting it installed.

ckd

make sure you get it with the TRD weighted knob. That made a difference in the feel to me. I know new scion parts sells it with both parts.

Schmohey
11-20-2008, 09:44 PM
I ordered the knob too. Was wondering if there are any tips in getting it installed or are there any obstacles that I'll encounter during the installation?

ckd
11-20-2008, 09:48 PM
the directions are pretty straight forward. The "c" style clips that hold the cables in the one bracket were a pain to get off on mine but other than that no problems.

Schmohey
11-27-2008, 10:49 PM
You're right, the c clip was a pain to get on and off. In fact, its only 80% in right now (hopefully it won't fall off). I couldn't push it any further even with all my strength. There's no room for a hammer...

Anyway, I installed it with the carbon fiber knob and nst bushing. Is it normal for the gear lever to be stiffer than stock? I can feel the shorter throw but it feels soo stiff.

ckd
11-27-2008, 11:59 PM
you need to get the clip in all the way. Use a small hammer or something to tap it into place. I don't have the nst bushing so I can't say. My feels the same just short throw

Schmohey
11-28-2008, 03:18 AM
What did you used to get the clip in place? Tried tapping it with a wrench and ratchet but it wouldn't go in. There is no room to exert any force onto the clip =(

ckd
11-28-2008, 03:26 AM
I was able to tap it in with a small hammer. make sure its in place correctly

Maytag
11-28-2008, 12:06 PM
I'm not a big guy, but I was able to seat it by hand. Make sure the cable is seated all the way in the new mount. I don't mean seated down, rather seated forward, so it sits fully in the new mount evenly. When I first tried putting the clip in, the cable was slightly sideways, and the notch where the clip sits in wasn't even the whole way around. After I got the cable to seat properly, I got the clip to seat fully by wrapping my four fingers around the cable, and pressed down with my thumb. It's all about leverage. I hope that helps.

Schmohey
12-03-2008, 02:13 AM
The hammer did the trick! Hopefully I don't have to remove it again in the future.

I just installed the TRD CF shift knob, TRD Quick Shifter and NST shifter bushings.
With big hands the install of the TRD Quick shift sucked...it was not hard but just not enough space to work with.
After getting everying in it was alittle tougher to get into 5th gear then the others. Reverse was already hard to get in and after the TRD Quick Shift made it even more difficult.
I like the short throws but it is just way too tough for a daily driver.

it will be coming out it I cant loosen it up.

ckd
12-07-2008, 11:58 PM
mines a daily driver and works great. Feels good and goes into all gears just fine. Sorry to hear you don't like it.

Hypnotik_xB
12-09-2008, 04:57 AM
It goes in all of the gears but is not as easy as it was stock. There is tension on the cables that is making it harder to get in and out of gear.
I can see someone living with it the way it is but not me.

I might open the center console up and see if it would be easier to make a short throw the traditional way.

ckd
12-09-2008, 04:09 PM
I'm not running the NST bushings so maybe thats the difference

whitebreadbox
12-10-2008, 02:00 PM
the bushings do help. they also translate a bit of vibe noise to the shifter, due to not having any insulation factor. all in all, worth the money and easy to install.

Hypnotik_xB
12-10-2008, 11:24 PM
I left the NST bushings in. But it was night and day after removing the TRD quick shifter...for the better.
Long stock throws but effortless.

Maybe there is some variance from xB to xB but I wouldn't recommend the TRD quick shift.
