View Full Version : Will these wheel/tire specs work on my xA?

Okay, I found out that after 1 month of owning the RS 1.0, 2 Enkei wheels were bent already, and so I will need replacement wheels.

Now I want to go 16" instead, but rather 45 profile than the original 40. Here are the specs I am looking to get:

Wheel: 16x7, 4-100, offset 40mm
Tire: 205/50-16

Anyone knows if the above spec will give trouble to the xA?

Thanks and yes I am not too happy, since the Enkei only lasted a month of usage...

Well both my wife and I did not recall running through a serious pot hole, but the MI roads aren't the greatest either. No hitting curbs or anything, and one day my wife told me the car shakes and leans to one side.
So I went on a test drive and found the car leans toward the pass. side, while the vibration increases as the car goes faster. I decided something is bad or at least alignment needs to be done, so we went to the Toyota dealer today,
After inspection, they told me both pass. wheels are bent. I went back there and inspected myself, and yes the front one is pretty bad, with the rear one just slightly bent. So the dealer said $850 plus tax and they will not warrant anything else if I decided to drive the car out.
Well, I told them not only the wheels aren't as strong as I thought, but also the tire specs are off anyway (should use 45 profile), so I will get aftermarket myself, along with tires.

Now, my questions are:
1) Were the specs I posted earlier works?
2) Are the Enkei wheels FORGED? The dealer said they are and they said I must be running into a VERY BIG AND DEEP pot hole :/

I can't answer your question about the specs, sorry I don't want to tell you the wrong info. Thats really odd, about what happened to your rims! I hope you solve the problem ASAP, and I hope it isn't a problem for other RS1 owners, including myself. I haven't noticed anything like it, but I'll be on a lookout. Any other RS1 owners or people with Enkei's in general noticing the problem? I hate to sound mean, but I hope you're the only one with this problem

Oh no offense taken. I mean I thought the wheels are pretty tough themselves, but apparently they are not. Just so you know to watch out for bad road condition, since they aren't strong and very expensive to replace. I seriously doubt they are forged wheels either, which the Toyota mechanic reassured me they are.
At least now it gives me a good excuse to get an aftermarket wheels for the xA. Right now I am looking at either ASA, OZ, or Sparco. If I decided to go 16", then I will replace the tires to PZero as well. Until then, the xA is a sitting duck.

The offset is not ideal, but they will work. I would suggest at least spacers/shims for the rear, though...

well the enkei rims are technically "aftermarket," but yeah, after what happened to you i guess that is the best thing to do. I love the enkei's though, i'm gonna stick with em unless I have bad luck like you did. good luck and let us know what you decide to go with for new "shoes"

And mind if I ask what would be an ideal offset then? 38mm? I thought that's what the factory wheels have, correct?

No spacers/shims...if the wheels won't fit, then I won't buy. I don't trust spacers/shims and it's b/c I have known ppls who used them...and umm, the results weren't good at all.

Guess no one knows if the Enkei is forged, huh?

arent the scions 40mm stock? maybe i'm wront but anywhere from 38-42 is quote un quote universal fwd offset wheels.

yes 205/50/16 will fit fine. a slightly smaller offset may help but if not planning on significantly lowering it it shouldnt matter.

those enkeis are cast rims and very strong. i've gone through some rough roads and it's holding up fine.

Well I bought Tein S-Tech springs, but have not installed it yet. I asked Discount Tire and I was told the 40mm offset will work.

Thanks for the cast info, and I guess that pot hole I encountered was designed to bend the Enkei then.

is that even legal??

seems like they wont warranty your car if you dont get it fixed right then and there?

The "ideal" offset really depends on the width of the wheel...but for 6.5" wide wheels, I I'd get 30-35ish? *shrug* I still have stockies...hehe

I understand what you meant mikochu, especially when it's going to be lowered a bit. I am just thinking if 40mm 205 tires will result in rubbing with S-Tech installation?

As for the dealer's comment, they meant that if I decided to drive the car out and something suspension/axle related problem occurs, then they will not cover the parts, since I went against their recommendation and drove the car away with bent wheels. Seriously though, I would take my chance if I am being charged 900 bucks for 2 cast Enkei wheels.

no rub. if u had 215's they might rub but 205s should be fine. theres a thread with alot of this info in it i believe it is in faq.

and no they cant just cut yer warranty's like that theyre just basically sayin if since u dont get this fixed and somethin else goes wrong it's all on you. and that they are no longer responsible with that. next time u go back to the dealer tell the service manager what had happened and your reasoning and i guarantee you will be fine. they dont want those bent rims to mess up yer suspension or cause you to crash and having them be the last ones touchin stuff have them be responsible. ya feel me?

hotbox: Thanks for the info...I may just get it then...Sparco or ASA...tough decision indeed.

mo@: Thanks, and I actually saw that thread, but didn't see 40mm listed in 16 with 205 tires; so I asked around.

I like the tires, but IMHO the 17" just seem a bit too big on the xA/iSt...guess I am an Impreza guy so small car/big wheel is not really my taste.

Now, my problem is to sell of those 2 good wheels pluls 4 good tires.

Took off wheel to inspect the spec today, and found the Enkei is actually: 17x7 with 30mm offset.
