I got the basic stock stereo system and was pleasantly surprised to find that the iPhone works with the iPod connector. I had already assumed that it wouldn't work, which was reinforced after seeing the manual list all of the possible iPod models (it was outdated, of course).
So great, it works wonderfully just like an iPod is supposed to work. The question is, has anyone tried the iPhone with the "Premium" sound system? I prefer the look and button configuration, and it would be nice to have a larger readout for long song titles and folders and such. I'm afraid that I might've just gotten lucky that it worked with the basic stereo, and the upgraded one might not communicate so easily. I would like to assume that the iPod part is essentially the same, but if they are not, I'd rather just stick with the one I have now and keep that functionality. I'm sure it will be a hassle to upgrade and then ask them to switch them back.
