Default Do I just have a wierd car?

Alright, for the longest time, I've read that the valet key (the key without the keyless entry) could not start the car. So, couple days ago I tried it out and it started and everything. The other key was no where near the car. It's not a spec, and its an 07.

Is it just weird, or is the 05-06 different from the 07 when it comes to this?

Some cars come with an additional key known as a valet key that starts the ignition and opens the drivers side door but prevents the valet from gaining access to valuables that are located in the trunk or the glove box.
So you'd give the "valet" key to a valet attendent (or any other person like a mechanic, etc that you don't want to have access to your glove box)

So don't worry, your car isn't weird. You probably just got the information mixed up. No biggie.

yeah i know that.
but every post ive read said the valet key could not start the car. which is the reason why most people with aftermarket alarms have to stick with the original keyless entry key.

Then we have some confused Scion owners on SL.

Might want to keep this thread, I was originally just gonna have a mods lock it, but maybe not...

Yep. What they said. The valet key does what its name implies; you give it to the valet so they can park your car, but can't gain access to private stuff in the glovebox.

The reason I actually bring up this thread is cause everyone thinks it can't start the car cause of the engine immobilizer. But I just read the owners manual and turns out the valet key actually has the chip in it to deactivate the immobilizer.

The valet key will do everything the regular key does except fit into the glove box.

If Scion's valet keys are like my other cars, the key is thicker than the regular key.
This prevents it from fitting into the glove box.

My valet key is with my parents for emergencies so someone check.

As others have said, that is the whole purpose of the valet key (hence the name, you give the key to a valet at a parking place and they can get in/move your car but can't go through your glovebox).

I pretty much just keep it as a spare since I don't go to places that have valet parking.

it's a VALET key...what else would it be for? the VALET park your car, therefore they would need to be able to start the car...not being a jerk or anything...but i don't think any other SL member is confused about that...at least i would hope not

The bolded part is the key thing here If you have a question about the car.. the manual is the first place to look :D

Valet key would be pretty much worthless if it wouldnt start the car
