ok, before i break something i thought i would ask. I need to remove the drums on my 65k mile xA to check them. I took the wheel off, attached a drum puller and pulled and pounded. nothing happens. is there a bolt that holds those drums on, on do i have to pull harder?

your gonna need two bolts to pop the drums off

bolt size 8mmx1.0mm

If your drums are worn down enough and have a lip on them you might have to back off a little of the star wheel to get them out, the shoes might be stuck behind the groove if it is present!

wha?

you probably have a lip formed. you should just be able to slide 'em off. i did.

Thanks! the 8MM bolts pops the drum right off. I wondered what those holes were for!

My '06 must be different. all I do is slide 'em off once the wheel is off. Same with my better half's '05.

thats all i ever did as well, but these were stuck on the center hub, probably due to corrosion. once i removed them i could slide them on and off at will.

my steel wheels have gotten stuck on the hubs too. a good whack (my hand on the tire) & it was off.

If I had a ridge on my drum, I would have backed off the adjustment & slid it off.

I did fronts on our cars last weekend. One bolt & a C-Clamp.

The dealership wanted to charge my better half over $200 to 'do' her front brakes.

I got Hawk pads for Xmas, so I took my OEM fronts off, popped 'em on her car - she learned how to remove her wheel & replace the pads in the process. Not necessary to turn the rotors yet.

i think my problem was 65k miles driving in new england winters! where are you from? once i cleaned the rust from the drum center it slid on and off just fine. also, 65k miles was the first time i ever removed them.

well, that explains it. both our cars had less than half your mileage...
