View Full Version : "Japan Toyota Arm Rest" Anyone?
jwinters78 11-17-2004, 02:59 PM I saw this link in another thread, and ran a search but found nothing here.
With SO much talk about how badly the xA needs an arm rest, has anyone tried this one:
http://www.newscionparts.com/product/?id=1061
it *looks* like it would be pretty solid, but there is VERY little info on that web page... not even a picture to show how badly it blocks the e-break... or if there are different colors... etc. My question - has anyone used this? I'd be willling to pay the $$ for something that appears to be that nice... but i'm just kinda unsure about something that has so little info.
thanks,
~jonathan
matt_a 11-17-2004, 03:08 PM Yeah, that one caught my eye too. I'd love to hear from someone who has one.
rubacava 11-17-2004, 03:30 PM Hi,
You might want to look at this also,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7934414424&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT
This company has a web store also if you don't buy it off ebay.

jwinters78 11-18-2004, 01:39 AM do you have the link for that company's web store?
has anyone found any particular arm rest to be better than another?!
Distracted_Thinker 11-18-2004, 01:50 AM That first one looks like it blocks the ebrake real bad.
jwinters78 11-18-2004, 06:53 AM yeah... that is what i thought, too... but if you compair the two pictures, the 2nd actually sticks out further past the seatbelt than the first. These pictures are somewhat deceiving... that is why i was asking for someone with some experience. To me, they actuallly look like they could be the *same* unit!
Porsche_Killa 11-18-2004, 01:03 PM i just bought a big hard leather covered pillow and stuck it in between the chairs
scion-bb 11-18-2004, 07:04 PM i have one en route from hong kong, will let you guys know how it fits when it arrives in a couple of days.

sindekat 11-19-2004, 12:57 AM Toyota will fix this problem in January, if you can wait. They have been developing one which would match the fabric and reatin the cup holder for the rear occupants. i saw a mock up-it looks pretty cool-just a little late IMO.
rubacava 11-19-2004, 01:04 AM Here is email of vendor
HDawg23456@aol.com
Here is his email he sent to me, just for info,

away. However your friend can buy directly from us without going through ebay.
The console is priced at $129.00 and shipping is $12.00. Your friend can pay
with a money order or via paypal and we will gladly ship out the console to
their address.
Thanks for your interest,

The JDM is really too low o be an armrest. Even we asians find it too low.. I think it doesnt really ft most of u. Besides that, the texture is leather which doesnt match our rides. The other one looks like a better investment to me..
I still like the one from zeta, in fact its available at www.precisionmuffler.com right now!! Come over and check it out. It is higher than the japan one too for better arm setting. :D
scion-bb 12-02-2004, 09:43 PM I just got my armrest today. It's a genuine Toyota part. From looking at the instructions it appears the armrest will fit both USM xA & xB. The installation involves drilling two holes in the rear square storage area or cup holder and attaching a metal plate to it. The armrest is then secured to that plate.
Oh and yes it is situated pretty low and back, but it does not block the e brake.
itzjere 12-02-2004, 10:06 PM Do you have pictures? How difficult was the installation process?
Boomerang 12-02-2004, 10:19 PM You may also want to check out the Boomerang Armrest.
The Boomerang armrest has the most factory look and construction of any of the Scion armrests available. It is a completely injection molded unit. It does not interfere with the brake and mounts in the rear cup holder. It is extremely stable because we manufacture 2 ABS supports that simply slide onto the bottom of the factory center console. Where other armrests are only an armrest, ours includes much needed additional storage and comes with a 32 disc CD case that is custom built for the unit by Case Logic. We offer a 3 year warranty and 100% guaranteed satisfaction. Boomerang manufactures automotive accessories on an OE (original equipment) level for companies such as the Land Rover division of Ford Motor Company with armrests and other products. This is why we were able to engineer and develop a Scion armrest that we feel is superior to everything currently available. We are very excited about the enormous amount of positive response we have received from the Scion Life Community since we launched this product and know that everyone who purchases one of our armrests will agree that the Boomerang Armrest is "The Perfect Scion Armrest."
Please feel free to contact us if you have any additional questions. For more info you can also check out our web site at www.scionarmrest.com.

scion-bb 12-02-2004, 10:22 PM Don't have time to install yet coz of school. Will do it in winter break time and post pics. Anybody can do the install, very easy. :)
itzjere 12-02-2004, 10:24 PM What company/website did you purchase it from? Was the company overseas? I recall you saying it was coming from HK.
scion-bb 12-02-2004, 10:36 PM I had a friend bid on an yahoo auction in HK. The shipping costs $30 while the armrest only costs $60.
itzjere 12-02-2004, 10:42 PM Very nice! My parents are going to Japan in January.. Probably ask them to pick me up stuff like the armrest!

Thanks for the info, Chris. I tell ya what....if you'd be willing to send me one (at no charge), I'd be happy to give it a full, non-biased review both on here, and on epinions.com. I would install it according to the provided instructions, and give it two weeks of real-world use before writting my reviews. Interested?
jontul 12-03-2004, 01:16 AM My xA is due to arrive in four days, but I've already had the Boomerang armrest delivered to my house. I am impressed with the quality. It has a nicely padded top and the material on the pad feels alot like the 'rubbery' dashboard. It's a solid piece of equipment. I like the idea of the storage inside, too. They send a CD wallet with the armrest that is made specifically to fit the Boomerang.
If it sits tightly in the rear cup holder as Boomerang says it will, I'll feel like this has been a great investment. I'll post my impression when I've got it installed next week.

yes i am talking about the Boomerang.
it is real sturdy. it actually has two brackets on the bottom to go along with the screw on the bottom of the cup holder in the back. it is really nice. over time i think it will hold up very well. i am actually going to start selling it to my customers who have complained about no armrest. i think this one is the best buy out there for armrests. :D

MATT_A ... Boomerang sold way too many for you to "test it" and get it for free ... they been tested and many have them already.
Boomerang had group buy special for scion members about 2 or 3 months ago .... so they know their products is good :-)
