Default Is this a smart choice?

Right now I'm saving up for a downpayment for my tC that I will be ordering a few weeks. I have about 4000 saved up so far and my goal is to reach 5000.

Well I was wondering... I have a chance to get a very good deal on a cell phone that I've been wanting to get for a while.. it's regular price is between 700 and 1000 so that's why I've been holding it off...well now I can get it shipped for 400 and I was wondering if it's a good idea to "borrow" some of those "tC money" and get me a celly now before I get my tC... cuz I have a feeling ALL my money are gonna go to my car after I get it...

why do you need a $400 phone? In a half a year it will be down to at least 200, so I say wait.

Edit: It pays to stay one step behind regarding any technology nowadays.

It's a V3 Razr isn't it? I know my phones and that thing is a waste of money. It's just a metal anorexic V600. No special features or anything. If you're going to drop money on a cell phone get the E398. Much cheaper and a better phone all around.

my jaw is still on the floor... 400-1000 bux for a CELL PHONE? that better come with some sucky-sucky but its highly unlikely. Honestly think about it more, do you NEED (ok well want really really bad) a phone that costs that much? Like someone else said, the price will go down eventually, its like computers getting outdated every 6 months. My cell phone was 20 bucks and it does its job fine, just no pictures lol. Put your prioritys in order...
have a considerable amount more for a down payment, thus reducing your monthlys on your new transportation or project... or
have a paper thin phone (well actually i have no idea what the RAZR is) that just allows you to chat on the phone...

imho I'd use the money towards the car, you'll just pay it off sooner and if you did get tight on money for a month, you wont have to worry about ebaying your 400 dollar phone.

I'm not kidding when I said it's just a metal anorexic V600. All the features are the same and the firmware is almost identical. If you really want a new phone with great features go with the E398, you won't be dissapointed. It supports t-flash cards, bluetooth(i think), same amount of color screen(65k), and even has a nifty little joystick. I am very dissapointed that I didn't drop the extra $50 for that instead of my V400.

My humble opinion is that your priorities are misplaced. If you are serious about getting ANY car save up for your downpayment and get a normal cell phone.

If you MUST have this fancy walkie-talkie definetely wait until after you get your car and make your first payment.

anybody that would pay that kind of money for something like that is crazy!!

It up to you dude. What are you priorities? If the phone is that important to you then get it. A month after you get it they will be giving it away for free with a new service agreement but if you MUST have it now then do it.

Personally, I've never paid for a cell phone in my entire life. I stick with AT&T which usually gives out free phones w/ a contract and when my contract expires, I sign for another along with another free phone. The phones usually range up to $150 retail or if you're lucky, $300. The only people who pay for phones are those who want the latest and greatest toys. But really, my friend spent $200 on phones with cameras... how often do they actually use it??? I bet you guys don't use yours much either.

I say save your money, get a phone you would be at least satisfied with and pay for the car. It's no fun being in debt.

While I'm at it, I would recommend all you to read "The Millionaire Next Door." It'll change your life and the way you spend your money. According to the book, you go by the saying of "Big Hat, No Cattle." Meaning you blow money to look like you're loaded, but you're not. Those people won't be retiring early. But then again, there's those people who would rather live life now. It's up to you.

lol ok ok fine...

I know my priorities very well... tC > RAZR V3... but I'ma end up still getting it after I get my tC....

It's hard to switch from a phone that can do anything to something you use just to talk on...

I sure hope to save up that 1000 more...

in a few weeks I'll post my Corolla up for sale on Ebay... that'll give me more money...

while I'm at it... what would you guys pay for:

1998 Toyota Corolla Black Metalic
89K miles
Auto, AC of course... Xplod CD/MP3 headunit...
Short Ram Intake
Strut Bar
Custom White Mesh Grill in the front

(I dont count this as a mod but I got bored and did the flip trunk thing)
for the interior.. it's pretty clean... Black/Gray Seats.. Back seat is Black.. the side of the doors is black.. floor mats are black and a black steering wheel cover.. that gives the car more united color from the inside as well outside...

So what do you think? give me a shot

I'd leave the car money alone. That's a pretty damn expensive phone :-/

I think my new one cost like $200. (People were making fun of me here for my old one lol.) Nokia 6230. Bluetooth (which is all I really cared about), tft screen, camera, video, IR, various programs like calenders and what not. Plays mp3's. Uses those memory cards. Up to 256MB methinks. And it runs J2ME so I can write programs for it It's pretty nifty and small. (And not $400-$1000.)

that's pretty much what my 3650 can do now..

Bluetooth
IR
I have a 64MB MMC
Camera/Video cam
MP3 player
Java Apps up the ___

until I got my Digital Cam, I have taken about 2000 pictures with it! lol

my second choice is the Nokia 6600... that phone is pretty good... and not that expensive

Camera phones are discouraged around here, and they're being outlawed

Not gonna stop me though, I'll just put a piece of electrical tape over the camera when I'm in malls

Don't want to turn this to a diff. topic, but does anyone have any idea when Verizon will release more bluetooth phones?

Emo - I highly doubt you absolutely NEED a new phone. You've been working this hard to put almost 33% down on a car (which is damn impressive I might add). This will GREATLY help you down the road when you're paying less on car payments and using that extra cash to buy your new cell phone.

What I plan to do is get about 4-5000 for my Corolla on top of these 5000 so taht way I can have about 10K downpayment...

but like I asked above, is this a good price to sell my corolla?
