View Full Version : Arg! I hate when I do this...
x_Batman_x 03-07-2008, 02:33 AM Okay I was at an intersection with 2 lanes and on the other side the right lane merged into the left. I was in the leftmost lane and as the light turn green I was calmy accelerating when all of a sudden I heard the roar of a Crossfire as it sped down the right lane to cut me off. Just for the hell of it I floored the accelerator more with out even thinking. I was actually keeping up pretty well when all of a sudden I felt my body lurch forward slightly like I was loosing power. Thats when I realized "Oh yeah I forgot that whole shifting thing." I quickly got off the gas, clutched in and got out of gear but I was already well into the redline. I don't know why the hell my revlimiter didn't kick in or something but I was far into it. I'm so angry at my self. I've only really made this mistake one other time (and i didnt get that far into the red that time) , and I know an occasional redline won't do a lot of damage but I always get so angry. I just cant help but feel like I'm destroying my engine life. :grumble grumble grumble:
Sorry for the long post, I needed to vent.
SW_08 03-07-2008, 02:45 AM I understand where you're coming from.....i was driving my parents cars for about a week ( both of them )and i went to drive my car and a similar situation happened to me but with another tC and i forgot to shift too  .......i was thinking to myself what a dumbass.....lol....i never really pushed my car at all though....
Well I beat the crap out of my S/C'd tC. I hit redline almost everyday, by choice. Its not gonna kill your motor.

damn... lol
I guess it just bugged me so much because I really was like halfway into the redline, I just feel like that cant be good.
CSUnited14 03-07-2008, 03:41 AM and your motor didnt do anything lol?? did it just go boggggg if so its a fuel cut off...
x_Batman_x 03-07-2008, 03:47 AM and your motor didnt do anything lol?? did it just go boggggg if so its a fuel cut off...
well yeah like I said above it bogged out and all, but I still made it pretty far down the line.
tCeeder 03-07-2008, 04:22 AM "A redline a day keeps the rebuild away!"
well, it works for rotaries.
draxcaliber 03-07-2008, 04:32 AM hitting accelerating until you hit the fuel cut off isn't going to really hurt your engine, that is why it is there, to prevent you from hurting your engine, however if you were to say downshift to 2 gear while going 70 miles an hour, yeah, you might seriously hurt your engine.
trojan105 03-07-2008, 08:46 AM get a shift light to remind you
MikeRackhabit 03-07-2008, 09:02 AM Yeah it isn't a big issue, as long as you don't sit on your redline for ages...that is fun down the road. I've done it a few times for fun, always a kick to get that forward thrust lol.
bruceg 03-08-2008, 01:04 AM Your car didn't do anything it's not supposed to do. The reason why it DOES bog is to PREVENT damage. The tC doesn't really have a rev limiter...just cuts fuel after certain rpm.
BlckdOutTC 03-08-2008, 05:50 AM didnt u notice ur car wasnt changing a gear ever haha
x_Batman_x 03-08-2008, 04:56 PM didnt u notice ur car wasnt changing a gear ever haha

x_Batman_x 03-09-2008, 08:08 AM sh!t happens......
yup, and you eventually get over it inorder to worry about new problems :P
my current issue is that I dropped a bulb in my engine bay and cant get it out. lol it won't hurt anything so I think I'll just let it sit till I take my bumper off for somthing, but its still anoying hah
SW_08 03-09-2008, 09:05 AM Dude i'm the same way......i dropped something in my mom's engine bay once and it annoyed me to the point that i didnt let her drive it until i found the washer that i dropped......

 thats funny, atleast you found it.
In my bay the bulb is between the radiator and some bracket thing. Even with the bumper off its gonna be a _____ to get out lol
