so, i'm driving a new nissan sentra from my dealership and i noticed that it has a CVT transmission, and i got to thinking, how would you measure the WHP of a CVT? since you usually measure the WHP in 3rd or 4th gear, how would figure out how much power a CVT is making?
so far the only guess i have collected was from garage1217 which was "i guess like any other car..."
whats the gear selector look like?

*LOL* Yeah pretty much :) Hey if it is actually continuous, then you should be able to spin the rollers to a couple hundred MPH since you have no wind resistance and you are only spinning the weight of the roller hahaha.
Seriously though, power to the wheels is power to the wheels and that is what you are measuring but results would be funky as I am not sure if you can even nail redline with a CVT.
Why the crap would you want to dyno a auto sentra anyways? Waste of fuel if you ask me.

well, the gear selector has park, reverse, neutral, drive and low, with an overdrive off button on the shifter
i did some thinking today, and figured that if you were to dyno it, you would just have to hit the overdrive off button, so eventually the ratio would be really close to 1 to 1 right?
now i am wondering that since it has no gears, how fast can you go in reverse...
or have the car in low to test...
i'm pretty sure the ECU limits the speed in reverse
