Seeing as the stock foglights do not really help at all driving at night eevn though they do look cool I have bad eyes and I am looking for an alternative to the stock fogs that look good and will help me see at night, I would also like something that is fairly easy to install.
can some people post pictures of your alternative foglight setup, where you got them and how much you paid, I really liked these http://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=34645 but I am not sure which ones they are or where to find them. They look like it would be hard to mount them to the mesh stock grill down below.[/url]

Yeah I was actually thinking about it but I hear so many problems and with it being a brand new box I dont want to risk having any problems. I did get a nice set of PIAA bulbs and it has helped quite a bit they look great but a little more light could never hurt and I think it would help. I live in the sticks now and when I say sticks I mean interstates and almost all roads have no lighting at all.

The PIAA bulbs are actually worse than stock, I'm sorry to say. http://www.overboost.com/story.asp?id=102
If you want some auxillary driving lights, I suggest buying a pair of Hella Micro DE in the driving light pattern NOT the flood beam pattern. Unlike the cheap crap you'll find in walmart, these lights actually perform. If you have the money, you can even get the driving lights in HID.

wow man that is a great read, it is funny to find that everything is just in our heads about buying the expensive bulbs. I can say that the PIAA are 'whiter' when I drive but obviously they do not out-perform like I thought.
Unfortunately I do now have $700 to spend on running lights :( so I am thinking the JDM stock ones may be my next best bet.

I hope you're kidding about an 18K HID conversion. ;)

Most manufacturer's lights do little to light up the road. European aftermarket companies such as Hella and Bosch, however, do actually perform.
Driving lights have to be mounted at or above the headlights to be effective. Foglights have to be mounted as low and close to the ground to be effective. If I were to mount driving lights on an xB, I would try mount them right before the grill. Since that is a larger opening, I believe the Bosch Sport Compact 100s (http://aa.bosch.de/aa/en/static/produkte/lichttechnik/zusatzscheinwerfer/compact100.htm) would be an excellent choice.
If you are serious about adding driving lights, go ask a question to Daniel Stern. He is a photometric engineer and runs a automotive lighting supply company. He can tell you more about the various options you have for your xB and can import the European stuff that isn't readily available in the US. http://www.danielsternlighting.com/

you understand the 4000 in the number on the kits is refering to the temperature in Kelvin of the arch in the HID bulb, right? 4300 is the Ideal temerature, andything higher deviates from white light and thus looks blue or purple. a 10000 kit would actually produce fewer lumens than your stock halogens.

hey that is my box in the link . the driving light's are BRIGHT , i have people flash there light,s at me to turn them off. now don't laugh but they are from WAL MART and cheap , they are called PRO BURNER'S cost about $20.00 . I ordered the relay & switch that come with the stock driving light kit, the switch & relay cost about $80.00 from the dealer, then i wired the light's in to the plug's under the hood, so they go off when you switch to high beam's

you should have left it so it was on with the high beams, that way when people flash you for it, you can flash them with the lights and your highbeams, and they would be like OMG  those are some bright lights

that's a good question.... most HID companies will put the temp, but not the lumen output... Lumens is a measurement of light 1 lumen is equal to about one candle power.

your driving lights probably are just aimed too high.

as a reference 5250°K is the temp of the light at noon, anything higher will deminish the light output as it would deviate from "white" light. I would say anything from 4000 to 6300 is the brightest, If your area cops are anal, I would get a 4.3 kit, it's much brighter, but doesn't look too blue.

you want higher lumens. 1 lumen = 1 candlelight. the kit in my car is a OEM Audi RS6 ballest and starter etc. it has a purpleish tint to it but most european market cars use hella ballests and the such. thats why i believe my lights are brighter than the white one. i just think his headlights are aimed inproperly.

not many companies list lumens. i'm trying to figure out why? i think all the cheaper companies can just list kelvin temps and the higher the better people will think they are i suppose.. i am just running 6500k replacement bulbs and it's better than stock and are only slightly bluish. i'd love to just turn those fog mounts into scoops. that is unless some company wants to make aftermarket fogs/driving lights for the stock location.
