Default Who says I need to tune first? Poll

So I have a show comming up the 22nd with drag events, and I cant afford dyno tune but I can afford to have the bottle filled, tell me if you think I should wait till I can get my A/F dialed in on a dyno or will I be fine running a 75 shot a few times before I tune?

75 shot is risky on the stock block with no tuning. i'd say a 50 shot would be fine untuned, but with a 75 it would be a good idea. Not to mention that dyno time and expense could save you thousands more as opposed to blowing the motor. just my $.02...

As the old saying goes, "Better safe than sorry." And in this case "sorry" would be a very expensive mistake. In theory, yea you might get away with a few runs w/out a problem. But then again, you might not. If you really are strapped for cash, borrow some from your mom or dad or someone. You are going to have to get it tuned eventually, better to do it before you possibly cause damage to your engine.

Like the others said, why spend all this money on your car just to throw it away for a couple runs... Take the time and get your car tuned to run more safe on a 75 shot....

plus if you do run with no nitrous first you can get a good base line.
good luck

sure they will. he'll be taking in lots of air with that new hole in his block after he's done running.

its not just the A/F ratio you need to worry about, you also need to pay close attention to the cars timing. when i ran my 75 shot w/o tuning my car was all over the place. i would run ungodly lean at 4500 then run way to rich up top. I tell you now its gonna take a mixture of fuel jet sizing and fuel mapping. i currently use the Ultimate but will be switching to the F/IC soon. I you want i'll pm you the person you need to talk to picking one up.

and 75 shot i know I dont need a fuel engine management system timing doesnt need to be taken back more than two or 3 degrees and I can do that off the crank, other than dialing in my A/F so im not leaning out is all I have to do, which from some dynos Ive seen im not to worried about at this point

you have to remember that everything in this car is controlled by the ecu so you won't be able to get away with that like you would on older honda motors. also with this ecu always adjusting everything to run the A/F and timing that toyota programmed. your a/f ratio might be all out of wack like mine was. so both are important.
