damn...my bro just got tinting on his evo for $100. my tc would be $90 for rear and side windows. hmm...i am seriously debating this now. what do you all think? i know the side windows are illegal, but they will be 20% and both my bro and my best friend have it. hmm...hmm...hmm...

As long as you don't have Presidential black I don't think it should be a problem. I don't think a cop is going to stop you because you have your windows tinted unless they can't see you. Most piggies love speeders!

i know plenty of people that have been stopped just for having dark tints, some weren't illegal and some were. some of the one's that were illegal got tickets and some got warnings.

same exact situation here in florida. i've known friends who were stopped and a light meter was put onto her window to test it.

I have limo all the way around, and 15% on the front windshield and the tint makes the car look 10000x better. I have never been stopped by the cops and have actualy been complimented on the tint by an poilice officer that works at my school. Check the pics below.

Wow Tampa, you have your entire windshield tinted? That's uber illegal, lucky here in Tampa cops probably won't bother you, but get pulled over for any other reason, and I'd be surprised they don't ticket you for that.

It does look sweet but can you see out of that thing? I bet backing up at night is a pain in the ___. Anyway I wouldn't try that in Cali, I'd roll out of the tint shop and 5 Highway Patrol cruisers would pull up on me at once. Babylon don't play.

at least in colorado, and in other states that i know of, there is some legal limit. most tinters will go beyond that limit though. i don't want any hassles from cops so i got mine done at the legal limit. you can see pics at the link below...i think tint makes the car look better, regardless of what color your car is.

oh and fwiw, i haven't had any screeching problems or anything else from my tint job like others have described on here. just look for a tinter who does a good job and you should be fine.

Check that for your state laws. Don't know how up to date it is. I've had limo on my corolla here in KY and never really had a problem. And I've been stopped a few times. Just flip the dome light on and get those windows down before he gets to the car.

Litte newb question here, but doesnt 10% mean that only 10% of the light is getting through? wouldn't that make night driving pretty hard? 10% doesnt sound like a whole lot of light to drive with.

10% is about the same effect as sunglasses. . . ever wear sunglasses at night? My bro's car in Thailand is tined 10% on the windshield, and 5% on the rest of the windows (cops don't care if you got a bling ride). You can't see AS WELL, but you can see SOME when the tint is THAT dark. But he's got a hired chaffeur and it's his @ss if he crashes. I personally would never go beyond 30% for any windows in the front.

i tint windows. ask a person who sees and deals with cars everyday. you can't beat the look of 20%. it is such a classy look. when you go down to 5%, it makes the car look cheap. it may be just an opinion of mine, but it's an opinion from someone who saw a lot. my tc is 20% all around and 50% on the windshield (only to block uv and heat)

Can y'all post some pics of the different percentages? My state limit is 30% all 'round, but I think I may want it darker so I'd like to see the difference in 20% compared to 30% if possible. Any pics are appreciated! Thanks!

on my previous car, 2002 MINI, i had 5% rear 3 and 25% fronts...

A month before I traded it in, I recieved a $110 ticket.

I lived in SoCal at the time. 20% is ILLEGAL. The legal limit in CA was somewhere around 89%.

You tint, you risk tickets.
You get a ticket, you have to remove violating tint. Sometimes they make you remove ALL of it.
This of course equals More $$$ outta your pocket, and time, and all that goes with dealing with the police and courts, etc...

I always had my windows tint in the past... 8)

I was pretty lucky, I never ticketed once...

I am not getting my windows tint this time on my tC. Love to have it tint, but most of my tint in the past, I ran into quite a few problems... got scratches from car washes... edge started to come off after a couple of years... tint places cause rattle on the door they work on... windows seems to roll up a lot slower after tinted... one of the power window broke after couple of years... tint was all scratched up...

Just too much problem... Not getting tint this time...

Good luch to you all that decided to get yours tinted.

djct_watt
11-29-2004, 08:06 AM
yeah. . . my main concern is with scratching, which usually isn't covered by their warrantees. I'm not sure about the tC, but the xA and xB do not have a felt lining under the dirt protector on widshield, so any dirt caught in there may scratch the window(at least so I'm told. . . been too lazy, yes lazy, to actually check and I usually forget to anyway).

I think you'll be happy with 20%. That's what I got on my tC, and I love it. It took awhile for me to get used to it, though, and it's still not easy to see through the windows at night. If there's not at least a streetlight somewhere nearby, I can't see a damn thing. Be careful about backing up at night. :)

Only problem is about 5 seconds after I got in my car after getting it tinted a mute crack head walked up to my window wanting me to read his paper asking for money so i stupidly rolled down my window to give him change!! so much for doing good deeds

don't worry about it, the rubbers on the tc aren't too tight; not like the old school hondas. your tint shouldn't have shifted or peeled

35% isn't it? almost clear?

djct_watt
12-02-2004, 01:42 AM
From what I understand, the %'s stand for the % of light that gets through. . . 100%=clear, 0%=paint. So 35% is a lot like a pair of medium sunglasses. . . 35% of the light gets through: dark, but not extremely dark.

I believe so. . . but it would be VERY hard to find. Don't forget that when they measure your tint, the number is calculated with whatever dirt is on your car and whatever tint is in the glass (even if it is 99%), so if you have dirty windows, you may be "illegal." This is what I've heard. . . but I was busted for 50% tint on my front side windows, here in CA. My windshield wasn't even tinted, but I had 5% on the rear sides and rear window.

What suck even more in CA is when your Dads a cop and you cant even have a 89% tint on the driver/passenger... the law in CA I belive is NO tint on windshield and either 89% or None (I think none) on driver passenger, and anything back from that can be limo... it SUCKS i want limo on the back but im afraid that no tint on the sides would look retarded with it so dark in the back...............

djct_watt
12-02-2004, 09:23 AM
Last I checked it was 70% or 80% on sides. . . I don't remember. No tinting on the windshield except a small banner at the top (forgot the max width). 50% isn't all that bad combined with 5%. . . but still illegal. I was only busted because I got caught in a group of ricers, and he thought I was part of the group and pulled me over. So stupid. . . but yeah, you can do 50% all around, and it doesn't look half bad, but that's illegal too. . . or 35% all around looks great, but is pushin the law, depending on where in CA you live (if cops are lame or not). You probably wouldn't be busted with 50% all around, as it allows a good amount of light in, and the windows do not appear too dark. Even with 50% front, 5% rear, the front windows can seem dark at night. . . making them get out the light meter thingamajig.

stock tint would be whatever is the legal tint in your area.

If the lowest is 35%, then you prob have a choice on how dark you wanna go
