The true Scion xB 2nd-Gen and it's American Imposter
I'm not trolling on you Scion xB 2nd-Genners either. I'm just a little miffed that Toyota decided to swap the newly redesigned Toyota bB for a Corolla Rumia aka Daihatsu Materia instead of giving us the real deal.
JDM designs rock. This is what made the Scion xB 1st-Gen such a success. CALTY has skills, don't get me wrong, but why couldn't they have offered both vehicles instead of only the bigger, thirstier, Scion xB.
Anyhow, here's my theory why this didn't happen and it has nothing to do with Americans being fatter or preferring SUVs.
Not to long ago Toyota, the automotive giant, started to shows some cracks in its armor by announcing a major recall of several vehicles in its homeland of Japan. Apparently, Toyota started cranking out cars to meet demand and ignored its famous commitment to quality that it's known for. One of the models of the almost 500,000 that were recalled was the 2nd-Gen Toyota bB. Something was improperly installed on them and led to steering problems. Since a Scion xB 2007 hadn't been released in America yet, Toyota had to release something in order to keep the Scion brand fresh. There was no way they were going to take the chance of sending faulty bB to America, so they swapped the car with the Corolla Rumia, otherwise known as the Daihatsu Materia. If you don't believe me look it up online. The Scion xB and the Toyota Corolla Rumia are the same exact vehicle. In the end, I think this is why Toyota decided to swap the cars.

"newly redesigned" ? hellsss no. the bB you speak of is years old. it's nearing the end of its model cycle. now i agree that it would be more exciting than the xB they did choose to bring, but whatever. it is what it is.
