Default audio question

i recently installed a amp for my 2 front speakers and everything has been working good until today comming home for work. the speakers started going bump pump bump pump etc. i take the door panel off and notice the woofer moving in and out. i get no sound just the movemnet of the woofer. they are component speakers. any suggestions?

thanks

ok...i disconnected the left speaker on the amp and the right speaker works fine...why would the left speaker be causing it to do that?

Double check the left speaker's wire isn't compromised (shorted to ground), and that the speaker terminals aren't touching the metal when it's installed in the door.

Amplifier's don't like it when their outputs are shorted to ground.

ok...i ran the left speaker wires to the right speaker inputs on the amp and the speaker works fine. could it be that the left input on the amp is bad?

Flip the RCAs too - and see if the RCAs have been shorted.

ok i regrounded everything and ran a ground to each of the rca's i still get a little bit of engine whine, but not as bad as it was. could i add a ground loop isolator to the already grounded rcas to get rid of the rest of the whine?

It would be better to find the cause and eliminate it correctly, rather than the 'band-aid' approach of using a ground loop isolator. What type of RCA cables are you using and how are they routed? Using a twisted-pair design, NOT shielded, with appropriate routing should ensure you don't get engine noise / alternator whine.
