It may only be into the clearcoat. Before you turn it into insurance try clearcoat touch up then wetsand it with some 1500 paper and buff it. It may disappear.
gotta love jealous people.
when you hate something, but cannot deny it is nice and looks nice and especially see other people liking what it is that you hate and want everyone else to hate but they dont... it drives some people nuts. so nuts, to keying out of complete frustration. they are futile.

1-800-CALL INSURANCE.
One of my co-workers got his truck keyed. the whole side. he went to the body shop and told them to paint the whole car. they said they couldn't do that. so he came back the next day and the rest of the car somehow got keyed...hmmm......and it was covered under insurance.

I use the 3 step Meguires process using foam pads on a rotory not orbital buffer. If you fill in the scratch with clear touchup first then sand it flat it should buff out nicely. Def let a bodyshop handle the job tho unless you have xperience doing it.
you have to be carefull with rubbing compounds, especially on clear coat paint jobs. I'd just check with a body shop "IF" you want it done right. A good paint/body shop should be able to "fade" paint the spot without doing the entire door.
I should have also said a paint/body shop would be a better bet on "maybe" rubbing it out also.
"IF" it has to be repainted, I'm "guessing" around $150. But that's based on being in OHIO. I know stuff in Cali is more expensive, so say maybe $200 for you out there.
Best bet, just go to a few different shops and get some quotes for the work................THAT"S FREE!!!
