As a proud member of eBay Racing Development, I was looking at buying an Intake for my car. I have an 07, and most, if not all of the "eBay Intakes" are for 05-06's.
BUT
I was gonna use the Randode MAF Adapter (http://randode.com/store/product56.html)
So anyway, is there a difference between these intakes below, and a Fujita, K&N, AEM, Injen, TRD Intakes? Besides a huge price?
Would getting anything other than TRD intake ruin your warranty?

A warranty is only voided if the aftermarket part is the cause of the problem.

Yes but what is the probability that HPS or AEM or like Fujita cause damage?

Also, injen is better for HP gain and sound
honestly, an intake on a tc is such a small power gain, it doesnt matter
STNC
03-25-2008, 02:55 AM
i dont care about power, i just want an uncluttered
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 02:55 AM
Anyways whats worth getting first for the tc...Intake or TRD Lowering springs? I have limited budget so I gotta pick one and cant decide which one haha

i really want the funds to buy one right now

Springs.. do TRD Coilovers... you decide how low
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 03:26 AM
The only reason I am going with TRD lowering springs in because it wouldnt ruin my warranty and if i get something else and it damages then I am screwed. I think I will also go with K&N filter for the tc. What is worth the money..K&N filter or TRD filter? and more HP?
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 03:27 AM
neither.
dont bother getting either
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 03:29 AM
If the aftermarket intake and exhaust provide such small gains why do people throw money into those? Intake i am guessing provides 3-5 hp and Exhaust like 5 so why spend soo much and gain so less?
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 03:30 AM
for sound

03-25-2008, 03:34 AM
So what do you guys recommend for the lowering springs? I am a daily driver so I dont wanna slam it all the way you know
get tein htechs or something. trd is just barely noticeable
frenchaj09
03-25-2008, 03:40 AM
Tein or Hotchikis.
Also, the CAI and Exhaust do add noticeable acceleration. IMO
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 03:41 AM
slightly....
but axlebacks dont effect much at all, 1-3 hp at the most

love my s techs but i'm on stock shocks right now. the only other system i have experience with is tien, i have those coilovers on the supra and they are STIFF. of course they would feel different on a tc.
as for the intake and exhaust, i got the intake for looks and to clean up the engine bay. same thing for the exhaust but the exhaust did make some difference in the way the car pulls in the mid and high rpm's.
i have a HKS exhaust, btw.

i just realized we veered WAY off topic.
lets stick with intakes, shall we?

OKKKKK THIS IS A FREAKING INTAKE THREAD, NOT A SPRING ONE.
I need to know...eBay short ram, will it work, yes or no, is saving the 200 dollars worth it?
Jesus...

will it work? yes, but put a k&n filter on it.

03-25-2008, 04:00 AM
STNC, if i were you, i would:
1) Stick to www.sciongarage.com or www.killertc.com or http://www.andysautosport.com/scion/2005_9999_tc/ to get the intake.
2) I say Injen. Point blank youll find its better than most. If you want sound, its better. If you want a SLIGHT HP gain, its better.
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 04:00 AM
yes it will
just buy a better filter for it

03-25-2008, 04:17 AM
ok, well what about the AEM Bypass, that is my only fear for the long intake
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 04:23 AM
if you have that much fear, just go short. or just be careful around puddles and go long
STNC
03-25-2008, 04:26 AM
yeah, i think im gonna do short

03-25-2008, 04:28 AM

03-25-2008, 04:31 AM
Hydrolocking is something that wont happen unless your sitting your intake in a puddle. Seriously..
I have driven from VA to FL through HEAVY HEAVY rains, and never had any worries or trouble with Hydrolocking.
Longer is better performance and makes a sucking sound. Shorter makes more (deeper) sound.

So if you buy ebay intake and replace with K&N you dont run the risk for damage?
frenchaj09
03-25-2008, 04:37 AM
oh no, you always run the risk.
Lol.
If it aint factory, then its risky...
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 04:42 AM
What do you think should be done...I dont wanna spend 200 dollars for like 5 hp gain u know. If i get the ebay kits, how do i kno wat size K&N filter would I need?
TcPrincess
03-25-2008, 04:47 AM
get one that has the same dementions as the ebay filter

03-25-2008, 04:48 AM

w166sxs
03-25-2008, 04:52 AM
So basically ebay ones are good too right as long as you change the filter? why does Injen or like K&N then charge soo much for their intake?
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 04:56 AM
name and quality
frenchaj09
03-25-2008, 04:57 AM
Injen costs alot because of the way the metal is made. And because its in competition with 500 other companies to make CAI.
Also, on the filter part, go to Adv. Auto Parts and just get a filter that fits.
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 05:12 AM
I have just one more question...I am searching on ebay for intake for scion tc and its mostly showing the ones for 06 not 08 so would 06 fit in 08 tc?
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 05:14 AM
no unless you get the MAF adapter previously posted
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 05:17 AM

how is this for the intake if I replace the filter with k&N?
do u know how does a bypass work for a cold air intake? how does it prevent water?
tCtCtC
03-25-2008, 05:42 AM
isk. i think its just foam and collects water as it passes. but idk
w166sxs
03-25-2008, 05:49 AM

Telling ya from experience, dont even worry about a BPV. You wont have to worry about hydrolocking..
STNC
03-25-2008, 02:30 PM
The BPV Is a "switch" I believe, when the bottom end fails to work, the intake converts to a short ram at the location of the BPV, not sure if thats right though.
TcPrincess
03-25-2008, 04:05 PM
yup, ita a diaphram that stays closed until little or no air starts comming through the filter, then the engines vac. pulls the bypass open.
also, you shouldn't tell people that they don't have to worry about hydrolocking, you never know what type of situation they get into. i'd rather be safe than sorry.
