How difficult is it to add the garage door opener? Is it expensive?

I bought a $15 clicker from Home Depot and a $2 momentary button from Radio Shack. I opened the clicker and shorted 2 of the 4 solder joints on the circuit board together until one of the combinations operated the garage door. When I determined which two solder joints worked I soldered two wires into them and connected them to the momentary button. Then I drilled the whole in the pop-put piece and zip-tied the clicker to a wiring harness.

Yeah....It's for the audio sensor. I was just curious what people have used them for since most of us have at least two empty spots.....some have three if they don't have fog lights OR alarm.

I just wanted to give this thread a bump and thank bigpapa for a very cool and easy mod. I did the garage door mod this weekend and it was a breeze. I really wasn't sure what you were talking about initially, but I finally got it after I took everything a part. If anyone is thick headed like me, I hope this helps... BTW, I didn't take actual pictures of my install, but just attempted a simple diagram below using someone else's picture...

1) Buy a momentary switch from Radio Shack for about $2.50
2) Solder 1 wire to each prong on the switch
3) Disassemble your garage door opener
4) USUALLY, you will see 4 solder points where the push button is located on the circuit board. Now that your momentary switch is soldered with a pair of wires, make contact with 2 of the 4 solder points on the circuit board until the garage opener works.
5) Once you find the right combination, you can now solder the points permanently. I hope that helps people...

I did the garage door opener mod a while ago on the xB & my wife liked it, so I did it for her Camry as well. There's a write up & pics here:

As for the blank next to the shifter, I put my interior lighting switch there. :)
