Paint Dilemma?
So I was in an accident a while ago and took my car to my dad's shop. I totally trust him to work on my car. Being the awesome dad he is when I came to pick up my car today he had their painter put some ghost flames on it. Sweet, I thought....
But I am a flame snob and have done a lot of airbrush work and custom paint in the past, and these flames were just sub par. I acted very excited but when my wife and I were in the car she said " I know what your thinking" ugh.... it's not only me that sees it. So what do I do? I can't really go to my dad and say. " Umm so those flames, yeah they aren't working." So the only other idea I could come up with is to start looking for a booth that I could rent to fix it my self.
Does anyone have any advice or know of any places that rent out their paint booth?
This one really has me tied in a knot.. Thanks for your help.

well it was a insurance deal and he just had the painter do it as a favor. I do have pics but I am kinda bummed to show them. Plus they aren't really good ones. I just took them at night to see if I could fool myself into liking them on the computer.
I might post them or take some better ones in the daylight. The bummer is that I got a new lip kit all around, a new grill kit, and new headlights... AAahhhh it is just that paint that is bothering me.

Post them up .........we all will give an honest opinion of them ..........heck how bad could ghost flames be.............hard to screw up........especially on white.........just a pearl flame with metallic.........right......
yeah but I am very particular about flames, they were hidden pretty well during the day it is that they just popped out at night. And also it is not the finish at all the paint application was great, it is just the form. I'll get the images ready to post.
Here are two pics of my ride. the worst is from the side but I didn't get a great picture in the dark.
I updated some of the pics .....check them out below..........**************
And here is some of the stuff I have painted.

bit far south for you but tacoma theres a place that rents their booth out by the 1/2 day or full day i believe... even has aircompressor onsite u bring your own tools...
forget what the name of it is...off the top my head

not bad... but pretty "off the shelf" style.... and for ghost flames they stand out a bit too much.... like a pearl off white was used instead of something a shade or 2 darker than stock....
here's the site.. maxispace in tacoma

what would you charge a guy to paint your standard front door off my house with like say checkered flag with the real flame looking flames coming up from the bottom??
(my daughter says im nuts..lol)

I totally see what is bothering you, it would drive me crazy too. they all look the same and it doesn't look like real flames.
It was a nice thought by your dad, but he should have asked you first. Knowing that you do paint maybe he could have had you do them yourself?
It's a bad situation. You don't want to make your dad feel bad, but at the same time I know how it is when something isn't right on my car and it drives me crazy.
Good luck.

it looks like you could toss in some upside down tear drops in between the licks of the flames and make it an african dancer theme.lol

Yeah they are to close to the exact same and need the lengths to be different.

Thank you all for your input. I actually saw them today in the light and they look a bit better. the pearl actually is invisible at certain angles. I think it might grow on me but since I am an artist myself I see things through too critical of an eye.
Dibbz,
yeah I painted the true fire stuff.
If you want a door painted I could do that, but keep in mind that there are a lot of paints that go into true fire. and checkers. there are 9 i use in flames and 3 I use in checkers. so paint alone would be pricey, but I'll PM you some info and I would love to do it for you. I'll also PM you my portfolio.
Thanks
Pablo

Just like the others say, that's a tough situation since your dad was just doing something nice for you, but when it comes to something that big and major then he should have involved you a little.
You could always rock the new paint job for awhile then go to your dad and tell him that you had a change of heart and want to do something a little more extreme or something.
As for the current paint job, it's not horrible. i think it will grow on you a little as time goes by.
BTW - The paint work you did on your own looks awesome.. Wanna teach me how to paint ha ha

Thanks here is some updated pics. It has grown on me a lot they look way better in the sunlight. They are well hidden and can only be seen when you are at an angle. So as far as the thin end of the flame licks, they actually look "ok" cause they are so ghosted.
I do have plans of putting my own touch of paint on the interior when I redo my sub box. I'll probably go with something fiberglass and do some kind of cool effects

i personally hate flames on cars... especially slow cars... i would be like:
'hey dad? these are hideous, can i get it redone?' iunno about your dad, but mine would understand and fix it.
did you ask for the flames?
