That is a nice armrest.

Most armrests don't look like the other materials in the car. They would become nasty looking quickly if they were. I've never owned a vehicle that had an armrest that had the same covering as any other part of the interior.

It is not factory, but the pics of it don't look too bad. Don't know if I want to spend that much though. I do use the rear cup holder sometimes, and it sits so close to the seat belt latch, I wonder if it makes it hard to buckle and un-buckle the seatbelt. Antway, I thoughth I'd pass the info on. When I called them the company said the product would be available for shipment on 11/29/04.

I gave them a ring and they are a really nice bunch of people.. All the info I have now it there is NO DRILLING or cutting up of your seats it screws into the same hole where the rear cupholder is.

One of the coolest things I think is the cd case that comes with it, pretty smooth IMHO I hate leaving my case wide open for everyone to see when I am parked.

I would have liked to have seen the same material as the inserts on the seats & doorpanels on the armrests, but it does seem like a nice design so far. 8)

$130.....Might get it if we could do a group thing.

OKIHost
11-23-2004, 01:12 AM
Yeah but $130 is really not that bad look what they are charging for some of the others and they look like ____.

I am hoping to get a group buy price for all of us if I can get people interest but I will get one regardless just to see how good the quality is.

My biggest thing is it looks pretty good (compared to the others we have been dealing with) it is functional (has storage and most of all I don't have to go cutting away at my box to install it.

Ok I just got off the phone with Chris and they are going to offer a 2 week special for $109.00 + S/H to the first 10 people who order.

What you can do is call 303-447-0902 tell them you are ordering for the group buy and they are shipping right away! so we dont have to wait till everyone is in before they ship.

I am ordering mine tonight so there are only 9 left.. I will leave a review as soon as I get it to let you guys know what I think.

Just got off the phone with Chris, the company President, and was very impressed. They have spent about a year on the design and prototype leading up to now being ready to finally ship. Apparently they have been showing them (to get feedback during the design process) in Denver-area Scion showrooms.

They also make oem products for Land Rover.

He said he would definitely have one in my hands for the 12/04 Scion Exposed gathering in Austin, TX if anyone coming wants to see it there.

OKIHost
11-23-2004, 02:56 AM
Yes Chris is a really nice guy, it is not that often you you get such personal service from a company. I already placed my order and he said it should ship tomorrow so it should be here in a few days I would think, once I get it I will give you guys a full walkthrough with pictures on the install and let you know how it holds up.

I really wouldn't mind if it had no storage space at all, but the fact that it has storage, and a spot for change, AND a 32 cd organizer, a padded armrest and requires no drilling or cutting makes it worth it for me. $109 is more than reasonable for a product like this.

In my opinion that armrest looks the best of all. The rearview of the armrest looks factory instead of having tall, black metal brackets screwed in there.

Storage is a huge factor in what armrest I buy too...can never have enough storage. :D

For those of you wondering about the 5-speed I do not think it will be a problem it does not stick out far enough. For those of you complaining about how small the storage is remember your not driving an Expedition ;) if you want more storage space you can just not use the cd wallet or put it in your glove box etc.

I agree on the rear view and the base... when I get it if I don't like the top I will either cover it in leather and or mod it with a new piece but I do like the base on this...

I'm really liking it the more and more I see it. You know most "factory" armrests are made out of that material anyway and not the seat or cloth material. Plus like Toy xbox said you always mod it if you don't like it. You can always cover it with leather and/or sand it down and paint it.

Boomerang
11-25-2004, 12:51 AM
Actually the armrest you are referring to on ebay is not the same. It is a product made by TAG Accessories. Do not be fooled as it is not anywhere close to the quality of our Boomerang Armrest. I beileve it is manufactured out of vacuum formed polystyrene that is rivited togther and has vinyl laminated to the outside. It does not bolt in (bad news in an accident) and if it something breaks, such as the lid, the whole unit has to be replaced. (Because it is rivited together, not screwed or bolted). Please feel free to contact me if you need any other info on the Boomerang Armrest and the differences between it and our competitors.

Thanks,

To be honest, none of the cup holders are that great. Regular sized drinks slosh around in the front ones, and the rear one is so big and shallow that drinks actually fall out of it. I don't mind sacrificing my "crater" in the back of the console for a nice armrest/storage unit.

seriously. If they make these then there's no way they had enough man. ahead of time and if they just resale them, then I'd bet they need to order more. We generated a firestorm of buying when this was posted on the site and it sounds like maybe the communication there wasn't good at the start so they may have unknowingly over sold their stock. Give them a chance to catch up.

Hello Everyone,

Many armrest orders shipped on Monday and the remainder will be going out today. Thank you for your patience on our initial shipment. We are happy to see that so many of you are excited about our new armrest. Boomerang was planning to launch this product this week, but we are accommodating all early orders. We also offer a 36 month warranty on this product. We know you will love the quality of this product as the quality is equivalent to the original equipment armrests we supply to Ford and Land Rover. My company Boomerang designed and manufactures this armrest. We spent several months engineering, prototyping and and building the tooling for it. It is actually made up of 6 seperate injection molded parts. This is why it fits so well and the quality and look is OE. I am excited for you guys to all receive yours! You will love them!

I bought it while in Japan a few months back. It was a little low for me but have since made a new platform and it works great now. Most of the aftermarket armrest I have seen have been to low for our xB/xA's.

Great fit. I think the quality is even better than I anticipated. It is dark here so I just set it in place. Instructions seem straight-forward and excellent. Looks like a 5-minute install. Got mine yesterday, looks very good quality and I can take any pics you guys want before I install it just ask.. My only concern is I am not sure what the actual armrest part you put your arm on it made out of, at first I thought I smelt leather, then I thought it was vinyl and looking at it in the light today it looks like it may not even be covered but just some type of rubber? The only thing that would be wrong with that is if you use it alot ot could start to wear but we will have to see.

Just got mine in @ work and overall the installation and materials look professional almost OEM.

However the actual armrest piece even though it is soft and durable, IMO it is not finished. It will need to be wrapped in leather to match the rest of my leather interior. There is room for modifing the base and/or internal storage compartment for more specific use, in my case to mount all my Varad LED contollers and some additional LED accent lighting for the console area and rear passenger footwell lighting.

I will post a new thread on the modified arm rest after getting it back from being wrapped and install/mods I will be doing...

I think I might have to order another one just to have on hand

alright, i just put mine in. it looks great and is in the perfect location, and is a great fit. it took about 5 minutes to install. very simple straight-forward instructions. this is by far the best mod i have done to my xB. now it is actually comfortable to drive. well worth the money. i would even sell it to my customers who come in complaining of the lack of armrest in these cars.

i don't exactly know what the material is that makes the actual armrest though. as stated above, it might show some wear over time. although it does look easy enough to cover with some sort of fabric. overall i am very satisfied. two thumbs up!! :D

I don't think the ps2 will fit in it. As you can see the cd case is like 6x6x2 inches, the whole dimension inside is like 7x7x3 so you can figure it out. It's a very nice armrest man. I think you should put ps2 under the front seats. Later

Mine got here Friday night. It took me all of 15 minutes to put it in. The hardest part was getting the carpet lifted around the foot braces. Once in, it's really nice. The color matches up with the interior color really well.

Only thing I noticed is that there is nothing securing the front bottom of the armrest. When my 2 year old opened it up, the top flipped back and the front raised up a second then settled back down. I have a feeling it isn't good for the plastic around the screw to be flexing like this. It only lifted a tiny bit, I'm just thinking about the long term effects. I'm thinking about putting some 3M adhesive strips to try to secure it a bit better. A stopper on the hinge would be nice, and would stop it from flipping back and causing this. Of course, with it's flipped all the way open, it can be used as a small tray for the back passengers.

It's a really nice unit, and looks very OEM. I'm glad I waited until this one was available. This is what Toyota should've included from the factory.

you can see some pics at http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=2134586345

i didn't find that it would flex back when the top was flipped open. it is actually very secure in the front even though nothing is actually holding it down.

DavidAF
12-05-2004, 05:50 PM
I put mine in yesterday. The unit is very nice, but you do have to be careful not to fully open it. I don't think it would cause any real problems, and the seats kind of squeeze against it to keep it from happening. The hardest part of the install is sliding the stabilizers all the way back to where they are supposed to go. Also, it seems that the metal retainer for the parking brake cable could potentially get caught on the passenger side stabilizer. I guess as long as the light on the dash isn't lit its ok. Does anyone know if for sure the "brake" light on the dash is off the actually parking brake is completely disengaged?

Finally, don't try to install it without the stabilizers. I did this first, and the screw is to long without them. I bored a small hole in whatever is underneath the metal hump in the middle of the car. It looks like its just metal from the floor of the car, but as the screw went in I heard a cracking noise. Probably just the white plastic the old screw went it to breaking as this screw is of a larger diameter. Don't know for sure, but everything seems to be o.k. Overall this the best armrest for the Scion that I've seen by far.

Ok I took some pics of it and some shots to better show all the areas I think most people were concern on mounting and/or clearance issues...

One thing I noticed to comfortably set the emergency brake you have to reach around and pull up from the passenger side seat, shifting is no problem either. When I get the top redone in leather I think I will add additonal 1" of foam to better fit me, other than that boomerang has a winner IMO :D

IMO it is by far the best that I have seen for cost and installation.

I agree that the top should have been done in leather, maybe you can afford this armrest I was looking at?

It was only $369 plus shipping and handling, plus you would have to modify it to fit the Scion

I disagree with that statement. I don't think there's anything cheap looking about it. The armrest looks factory all around and especially when looking at it from the back seat. The armrest looks like it is meant to be there and isn't some rigged up afterthought armrest with nasty exposed metal brackets in plain site of the backseat passengers.

I'm tall and ride with the seat all the way back and this armrest gives me perfect support and comfort. Totally sweet!

I got mine last night. To me it looks very OEM. I had a long conversation about the pros and cons of design w/ Chris last night (He called me for feedback). **Keep this on the down low** but he said that they will be releasing a leather option really soon. :D I am still rocking the standard Hot Lava interior in my XB so that's not a priority for me, but definately for the future. In my opinion the quality of the armrest and customer service is worth my future business. "nuff said"

I received a call from Chris last time. Kind of funny the way it started off:

"Hi, this is Chris from Boomerang"

Me : "Hey, how are you?"

"Good. What is your screen name of Scion Life?"

Me: "Laughing...Pile of monkey crap.:

He called to ask my opinion of the armrest and how the installation process was. Chris asked if the instructions were clear. I said that if the stabilizers were marked "left" and "right" I would've saved 5 minutes. But that was it.

My wife is impressed with how sturdy the armrest is and that it doesn't budge or wiggle at all.

Great mod! 8)

Just got mine. Installed it in about 5 minutes, and yeah I left the stabilizers on top of the carpet, it looked tacky with the carpet sticking up, and with the set screw in there it's not going anywhere anyway. My opinion - it looks OEM, feels great, installs easy, has good storage, and a decent price. Good job Boomerang!

Word! This thing is by far one of the best armrests I have seen in person. It was a little hard to tell what the exact quality was going to be by looking at the pictures on the site, but after receiving one and installing it (in less than 5 minutes) I would recommend this bad boy to anyone looking to buy an armrest.

The only thing I had to get used to was having to reach around the top a little to get to the e-brake, but it's just second nature now only after a week, hehe.

Just got off the phone with Chris a few min ago. He is a great guy, explained to me all about the development of their products and such, pretty much reassured me that nothing will wear out on this armrest, which is what I expected from looking at it when I received it.

All I can say is that it's a great quality product. The molded plastic and the way the texture and fit match the interior, the padded rubber is molded and although some of you think it looks cheap, it isn't, and won't wear out. I think Boomerang has done an excellent job on this, the way it fits in the car and provides proper support while giiving you storage and looking OEM while being extremely affordable is a huge plus. Boomerang knows what they're doing, I can't say enough about this armrest, it's the one thing these cars are missing from the factory and these guys do a GREAT job at making a quality product.

I just got home from a vacation to LA, and found my armrest waiting for me. I just opened it up, and I think I'm missing one of the console stabilizers--that's the black triangular thingy right? I only got one :(

cherry-bomb
12-08-2004, 12:59 AM
I installed mine yesterday, I didn't realize that it would make the console sit a little higher than it used to so I kept tightening the screw until the front of the console popped up! After a trip to the parts department to replace one of the front mounting clips ($.83) that worked it way under the shifter, it fits and looks great!! Whoever said that it's looks cheap and doesn't match the interior is nuts. The plastic is a perfect match and the rubber pad looks and feels just like the rubber on the automatic gear shift knob. The change holder is the perfect size to hold my cell phone when I'm not on it and the cd case sure beats the visor mounted one that I used to use. The instructions were a little vague, but overall it's a great product!!!

Good news:

After I posted my message about missing one of the console stabilizers, Chris called me last night at about 9:00 PM Eastern, and let me know he was heading to UPS to try to overnight me another stabilizer.

At about 9:20 or so, he called again to let me know that he got to UPS before the overnighting cutoff time and that I'd have it this morning.

Since UPS is slow to get to my complex, I had to leave for work before they got there, but I should have my armrest installed tonight.

Now, that's what I call customer service!

Finally installed mine last night. The only problem is getting those damn support feet under the carpet. I think that's why many people opted to leave them on top. The one thing that I might install is a strap from the lid to the base to keep the lid from flopping back so hard.

I think the trick to making the stablizer install a little easier is toplace them under the carpet before sliding them on the base. Get the carpet lifted out of the wayand set the stabilzers forward toward where the carpet is cut in a straight line. Place the armrest in place and then slide the stabilizers on to the flange part.

Worked easier for me that way.

Got mine via UPS today, the one from eBay, that is.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7940007647

The quality is amazing, looks very stock.

Install took about two minutes and 1:30 of that was taking it out of the box.

Color matching seems to be good, but I was putting it in at dusk.

Very sturdy, even without any screws. I did not apply the sticky stuff which comes with it.

The interior space is not great, but enough for me. I doubt it will hold a couple cd cases, but that is not needed with my iPod having its own spot.

I have an auto, but reaching the brake would not be an issue.

It seems to sit a little low, but it's the same height as the armrest in the door, so maybe I am just tall.

I am very happy with it. I'll try to grab some pics sometime tomorrow.
