Parking lights wired to dome lights?
Ok, so heres whats up:
I have the wiring mod that when I unlock my doors, its wired to my headlights so that they come on with the dome lights and turn off when I lock the door. It's cool, but I have HID's and i'm killin' my ballasts.
So i'd like to wire the dome lights to the parking lights to have them come on instead of the headlights. I've SEARCHED and SEARCHED and I haven't had much success.
I found the fuse in the fuse box in the engine bay for the parking lights (BROWN?). Can I just run a wire up from the dome light relay to that fuse and it'll work?
I'm not wiring whiz so be gentle and speak dummy/noob for me..thanks for the help.

^^ I'd rather not risk it.
idk about this mod. but I'm pretty sure one of the grey wires in your fuse box by the drivers side door is for the parking lights. not sure if it would work but maybe tap that instead of the headlights? Not exactly sure how to about doing this mod.

i have my current set up (dome to headlights) running through a switch so i can turn it off during the day.
i know it'll take a while to kill the ballast, i just dont want to do it prematurely or be on the highway at night when it happens..lol.
a_german_named_hans do you know which grey wire by the drivers side door is the parking lights? I think the headlight one is grey...

let me see if I can find the topic about the fog lights and this mod. Some guy wired it up so that when the parking lights go on, it triggers the relay and turns the fogs on. i'm assuming you might be able to do the same but in reverse maybe? idk. let me see if I can find the topic for ya.
Edit: here it is. you're right. Grey is the headlight. One of the browns is the parking lights

Might wanna use a multi-meter to figure out which ones the parkin light wire. Think u might be able to use that?

yeah i found that post in my search. Im not gonna lie, I dont understand any of that..haha.
I'll just try the brown wire under the drivers side panel.. i'll let you know if it works, ima run out to my garage and try it now..lol

haha. hopefully it works. Basically. what that post is saying is reroute your relay. so that instead of getting a signal from the headlights, you're getting a signal from your parking lights.
Not exactly sure if you could do the same for your mod as in change the headlight wire for the parking wire. but why not try.

yeah, So I went and took a look, there's def. like 4 brown wires under there..lol
I plugged the wire into pin #15, 16 or 17 I wasn't sure. It was brown haha, and It turned them on for a second and I think it blew something because now they won't turn on at all..
F UCK what do I do now? Where is the fuse for the parking lights? Im hoping its just a blown fuse...

the interior lights (gauge and HVAC) still work when the parking lights are on, its just the headlight parking lights, and tails dont work (but the break lights work)
im scared I effed my **** up..

ok i found it, damn thing was tucked up under there so far i had to lie on my back to see it.
turned out i just blew a fuse, replaced it.
now what? anyone not know where/how to access the parking lights? could i do it with the hazards? i'd take that.
help please

I did the headlights through this DIY

I dont think what im trying to do is all that complicated, then again, I dont know anything about electrical wiring so it may be....

^^ yea shouldn't be hard. I figured if u hooked up the parking lights instead of the grey wire it should work. U sure u got the right brown wire? Get a multimeter. one side grounded and the other to test all the brown wires. then turn the parking lights on and off and see which one jumps. The one that jumps. is it the wire that you tapped into? if not try tapping that wire.
I dont own a multimeter and Im not sure which one i tapped into. I believe it was either 15, 16 or 17. I think its the right one because when I did it, they parking lights turned on for a second, then the fuse blew. I'm not sure if theres just too much current going to it and it just cant handle it or what.
I'm about to give up
I'm about to give up
I ran my set up a little differently because i didnt want to have to fuss with a relay
So i still have my parking lights come on with my lows, but I have the LEDs in my headlights light up with the dome lights

heh right
Alright, Im not responsible for you effing up your car blah blah
Make sure your parking lights are off and your doors are closed/dome lights off
Things you'll need:
Mini add-a-fuse (I got mine from Autozone for about $10 but make sure its a MINI)
http://www.tessco.com/products/displ....do?sku=469004
Wires & wire cutter
Your weapon of choice:
Soldering iron
Crimps & Crimping tool
t-taps
First, you need to twist out the sockets that hold the 194 bulb under the low beam and cut both the positive and negative wire leaving enough wire to rewire them later.
Now in you engine bay there should be a fuse box on the driver side. Pull out the fuse for the dome light (2nd from the left; brown 7.5 amp) and replace it with the mini add-a-fuse. Then crimp a new wire to the terminal coming from the new fuse (this is your power source;+)

Now run a new wire through the fire wall and under the steering wheel. Open up the kick panel and tap your new wire into the blue wire (see below)

(I actually ghetto rigged mine just to see if it was the right connection and its still working so i guess you could just jam a solid wire into the back of the plug)
Behind the kick panel

Tap the blue wire is coming from this socket or if your using solid wire, you could try to push it in between the wire and the metal part

Now run your new positive wire to the positive wire on the bulb (green i believe) and you new negative wire to the negative wire on the bulb (black and white i believe), then split the two wires and do the same to the other socket.
That should be it. Let me know if you need me to clear anything up

which one is my negative wire? and these are going from the mini add-a-fuse directly to the bulb? I'm really lost..im sorry. haha
Ok heres what I got:
- install mini add-a-fuse (remove brown plug in there, but where did the red one from from thats above the brown?)
- run + wire from mini add-a-fuse through firewall into kick well and tap into blue wire.
Then im lost..haha
