I want to take my sound system to the next level, but a friend told me that the whole scion system is spliced to eachother making you change the speakers and the headunit if you put new subs in. Is this true? Also, has anyone found any clever ways of keeping some trunk room, but have like 2 12"s and an amp in the back? Thanks for your help.
take out your spare tire and everything in the bottom of the trunk, and use that room for a box...that will leave space for a few things...
there's no "special" wiring done to the tC...it was easy...

2 12's are a little overkill in such a small, open car. I have one 10' arc sub powered by the arc xxk 4150 amp and it bangs. The best way to save space is instead of buying lots of big equipment, buy a top shelf amp and sub.

i have 1 12'' and an audiobahn amp, it's fits snuggly in there. wouldn't know how 2 12'' s would be, but i'm sure it would, but there would be absolutely no room. but about all the wires and changing headunits...........i put in new subs, i didn't have to change anything. just had to redirect the wires and all.....you know, the usual when you put in subs
Our cars (Scions) are really easy to work on from a sound system design standpoint.
The things that you have to consider are:
Cost $$$$ any thing is possible if you have enough money
Space how much space are you willing to give up to have what you want???
Once you figure these two things out you can take the first step.
You asked about changing the head unit and speakers. You can change any part you want to change. If you want add a amp to the factory headunit you can do this by using a "high level to low level" adapter. This is not as good as changing the headunit out for a good aftermarket unit but it will work. The speakers are easy too.
You can replace the stock speakers with the same size or modify the stock locations.
There a lot of options with sub woofers there are pre made boxes, custom boxes, flase floor boxes, sealed, ported..... This is where space becomes an issue how much of it do you want to give up and how much money do you want to spend. A pre made box is going to cost you the least amount of money $80. to $120. Cu$tom is alway$ more money. A flase floor cu$tom fibergla$$ can cost from $300. to $600 of course you may be able to find different prices where you are. Just make a plan lay it out step by step it will all come together. Good luck
