I'm sorry if there's an answer to this lying in one of the thousands of threads already existing...

but i just have a quick question.

i have a set of 17x7.5 inch rims. would these fit on let's say 205/45/17 tires?
Right now I have 215/45/17, I wanna see if I can get narrower tires.

Also what are a good set of lightweight 17's? If I can go lighter than the OEM stockies that'd be great..

Yes they will work. In addition to getting a more narrow tire, it will also be slightly shorter. Your current setup is 24.61" OD, the new setup would be 23.45" OD

It's the diameter of the wheel/tire combo.

You want to try and keep the OD the same as stock so you do not screw up the speedometer and odometer reading on the car. If you go with a smaller diameter, the tire combo spins faster causing your speedo to read faster mph.

Yes Indeed. It is figured up like this:

for a 215/45/17, 215 is your section width in mm; 45 is the sidewall height, as a percentage of the tire idth, and 17 is obviously your rim size.

So; you take 215, and divide it by 25,4; which converts it into inches. That equals:8.46"

That is the width of the tire. next; times the 8.46" by 45% which equals: 3.8"

That is your sidewall height. Finally, take 3.8" times 2 (for each side of the rim) and add the 17" to it. That gives you your 24.61 for the Outside Diameter.

This website makes quick work of all that math, and is a good reference for searching for new tires.
