I painted my scion emblem save to say i over painted it ....can i sand it down and re-due it i know where i went wrong instead of lightly spraying it i went a little to crazy any help would be great ...Thanks Doh!

 

sanding it would be the best thing to do since adding more coats wont hide the drip marks or whatever looks bad.
light coats from about 12" away next time. and be patient.

 

sand it down to original finish, then take your time doing it this time. I know I messed up in the past too

Hi there. I'm also painting my emblems. i had to sand down to original finish because i changed my mind on the color. I just scraped the paint of with my fingernails (forgot to sand initially!) and then used 400 grit sandpaper to get the remaining paint and also to sand the surface for a fresh coat.

Definatelly take it slow and be patient. In fact, I'm in the middle of doing this so it's right about time for coat number 3 :-)

^^^ Thank you. It didn't turn out as perfect as I wanted it to since I had to use a brush for the 'scion' but it looks ok for now. I wish I had spray gold rush mica, would have turned out a LOT better!

 

Hey MrE333, That looks tight. Good job! I already sprayed my front emblem black to match the factory grill, and want to paint the rear...Does the rear emblem come off? I haven't popped off the plastic interior on the hatch yet to see what's under there?

the scion back emblem has two small holes on the hatch that are at a slight angle on each side. I bought some plugs from home depot and painted them white. The xb emblem does not have any holes so it should come off clean

 

I see guys on here say they use a screwdriver or fishing line to help take off their emblems. THAT'S A NO NO

I used a metal puddy knife.

I kept the hairdryer on the emblem and used a metal puddy knife.

trust me its cuts through the tape like a hot knife on butter

 

Thanks guys! Personally I used a blowdrier for a couple of minutes and then I ran 20lb fishing line through the 3m tape and it came off with no problem. I spent quite a bit of time removing the residue of the glue that stayed on before reaplying the emblem. The xb logo came off even easier.

 

Ya, I de-badged my "XB" as soon as I got the box, The xB came off super easy on a hot day and with some blow dryer action too. But I am skeptical about removing the Scion emblem ,,,what to do what to do...

 

what did you guys use to get the tape residue all the way off without hurting the clearcoat?

 

Use 3M adhesive remover, it's about $3 a can at auto supply stores.
