$20,000 car and no auto headlights... Seriously, it can't be that hard to add in.

You could make something like that for about $38. All you would need is a photocell eye, a couple of relays, and some wiring. You could make it even cheaper if you salvaged the photocell eye from a nightlight. Someone looking to make a simple dollar may be able to build such a thing for the Scion lineup. Personally, I hate the idea of the automatic headlights as it takes more control away from the driver.

dei makes an add on for just that. the model number is: 545t and you can find it as cheap as $35. it basicly consists of 2 relays, an eye, and a few wires. it keeps your parking lights on as running lights and your headlights turn on as soon as it gets dusk-y. the head lights can still be turned off with a small toggle switch that comes with it.

Yup, per the California Vehicle Code it is illegal to drive with just the parking lights during the daytime also:

Lighted Parking Lamps

24800. No vehicle shall be driven at any time with the parking lamps lighted except when the lamps are being used as turn signal lamps or when the headlamps are also lighted.

DRLs are a different matter. they are only legal if it came from the factory. the DOT worries that it might blind people during the day. i know that sounds stupid but a couple weeks back a jerk in a passat just loved to drive on my tail with his DIY HID daytime running lights aimed at my rear view mirror...

what CIONIDE was trying to say is that the parking lights are only allowed on when the headlights are on at night. otherwise its illegal!

The only thing I miss is on the tC that I had, If you left your lights on and turned the key off and then opened the door they automatically shut off. The xB will stay on.

Same here, I have no idea why they didn't include that function in the gen2.

So does anyone know if we can take the relays or whatever else off of a tC to make it work on the xB2? I also miss that feature from my old tC.

So what happens with vehicles that use the parking lights as DRLs like the new Tundra? Or is that function disabled in Cali?

DRLs are legal as long as they come pre-installed from the factory.

turning on your parking lights for use as DRLs is illegal in Cali at least

I wonder if its illegal to leave your headlights on during the day, since all day and all night i have my lights on, since the tC turns off the lights when the doors are opened.

anyone know the reason why?.. i find it kind of lame.. parking lights cant do any harm.. if anything, it lets people know your there, for those idiots that dont know how to drive and swerve into your lane.. and i see regular cars drive with them all the time on the roads.. even on freeways during the day and my commute to school..
