Default All of these numbers and all of these cars...

You know...after reading a few articles on how badly police are cracking down on "street racers" or tuners and being infuriated by all of the stereotyping going on (mostly in California...which sucks) I have come to think about why most of you here are doing what you are doing to your cars.

First I just wanted to beat STi's, Evo's, 350z's, etc etc. Then I came to realize...that it is really not worth it to be caught racing on the street. There are far too many penalties and consequences to it that the risk does not amount to the reward.

To be honest, after installing the turbo, I have become a safer driver in fear that I would be pulled over and have my hood popped. I don't do more than 70 cruise control on the freeway and I do the speed limit on the streets. The car is quiet, no identifying marks, no tint, etc.

So why do you guys go for the big numbers? The 400+ or 500 mark? I know some of you have a second car but for those with daily drivers...is it worth it?

I love to track and auto cross so I am basing my turbo on low PSI + fast spool times to compliment that driving. Sure it is not the best street drag car but a turbo that spools at 2k RPM and creates 250whp on 5psi is awesome for the track.

Let's hear them out, why do you build? Aside from the gratification, frustration, and fun of it heh.

I totoally agree with you Paul. I have definitely slowed down my driving and I drive the speed limit almost everywhere now. I do punch it off the line to the speed limit and freeways in ramps... its all over but for the most part compared to how I used to drive my tC when it was stock as far as performance goes, I drive slow. Besides... The gas mileage sucks with a turbo

I have to give it to you! You definately have a good head on your shoulders.
At my age I have learned that when street driving you not only have to drive safely for yourself but for others as well. It is definately not worth the risk. I took my tC out to Willow Springs Raceway a couple of months ago and loved it. I haven't had much of an urge to street race after that. All I can think about now is finishing my turbo set up so when I get back on the track I can spank all those EVO's and STI"s that were passing me on the straights. LOL

Well im not going to defend the "street racer" but I am going to say however that to some people it is gratifying to build a 400 + whp car.... know that you put in all that work and getting results like that... Drag stips and auto X are not readaly avalibe to evryone to use... you might live in a place where it is but I garantee that the guy who lives out in the middle of.... lets say Montana or ND or SD or NM... well you get my point have the tacks or the people intrested in racing... So you they should move to a diffrent state... what do you sugest they do? what would be your soulition to that. We all have been know to give it a little bit more when that hot shot revs at us at a stop light.... Evryone is at fault so dont play im soooo inocent and....im a do godder... just looking at the other side of the hill.... like I said im not defending it but I am thinking about the other side

Good point JL. I have done cross country trips and Vegas Runs where you can honestly drive 130MPH with out even thinking about the speed because there is no one around you for DAYS.

I can also know what it feels like to build something and have that great feeling that yes, you did you, you made it and it's yours. I want to know what the other guys on here do it for as well.

I for one (mind you I am only 21) wanted to be so fast and the furious when I was about 18. Then work, school, work work work work work work (yes I work 4 jobs) happened. The daily drive of my car is my fun and so is most of work.

I built my car so I can start competing at the track because the only 2 times I went I had a BLAST with a NA tC. Now I can't wait to take that pavement with a boosted one!

It is convenient to have a good racing community here in San Diego/SoCal area as well as in NorCal. There are a good amount of AutoX and Track events around so it is a bit nicer for us.

I'm not bashing street racers, I was guilty of it myself. Especially if you don't live anywhere near a track or don't have the funds to do a track event. I am saying that you have to be mindfull that when you street race, your MOM, SISTER, BROTHER, FATHER, GRANPARENTS, or any other family member might also be on the road and you or some other street racer is putting them at risk. Just a thought.

hehe... I'll admit, I had my turbo kit on for less than 24 hours. I decided that on labor day weekend I was going to get on it. Stupid move, there was a cop sitting in the median with his lights off. I got pulled, recieved 4 tickets for that stupid move, and got my car impounded. Seems in Va. I had been driving on a suspension for 3 years for something stupid I didn't do on my part (never filed my SR22). Got the car out of impound 3 weeks (and $1000 impound fee later), and recieved 2 more tickets the next day (tint, exhaust). I abide by all rules these days. Although I do still have pretty dark tint. I just happen to roll my windows down..

back on topic. There is an okay scion following here in my area, but nothing with remarkable numbers. I love showing up at dyno days and people doubting my little "girl car" (as they call it) puts down better numbers than their cars. The last one I went to, I literally heard some guy with an integra say, "man I should have gotten a scion". I like being different, and showing people up.... Although I have never street raced.

i agree with paul completely.. i threw back on my stock exhaust and i'm loving the pure quiet after getting everything sorted out with my fuel injectors i'm going to go back to get a tune with the pulleys and just keep it that waym just to have that rush going on the freeway on ramp.. but i'm over the whole loud exhaust, people trying to race me on the freeway.. so i'm moving on to suspension and i'm going to be happy with my "below" 300 numbers..

as for CHRIS, i hope you die!!! just kidding.. i'm just jealous.. when are you going to take me for a ride?

Nate, there isn't anything left. I have some stock springs if someone wants to buy them from me, super cheap!

Vince, I have an idea.. Just something I have though of doing. Stock exhaust, but run QTP Open cutout, so not only do you have that quiet exhaust that clearly is stock, but when you want that power, just flip the switch and big gains... just a thought.

As for you getting a ride, I am sure I'll run into you at a meet or event or something!

i started out with the car thing about 10 years ago(yes im old) and it was street racing at the time, witch i did for about 3 years, after one very stupid night,6 citations,1 night in jail, and 6k in fines later...i learned my lesson.that was about 7 years ago i can only imagine what the fines are now after that ,i started going to the local strip and the local auto x events, and it was there that i realized what a "good" driver was.ive built three turbo cars before i owned my tc they were all honda's with the fastest running 12.0's. when i got this car i decided i wanted something that i could keep all the amenities and still have fun with, but not go all crazy with like i have before.this car will be a fun, mild, and legal project for me,and it will see the strip and auto x alot.

Im in SD also and your right the police are real tough on cars (mostly modded imports, they never seem to car about the domestics). SD is also the 1st city in the U.S. to have a street racing "task force", I have been into honda's for a long time and have been through alot of run in's with s.d.p.d. infact they imponded my boosted civic for 30 days(because the turbo kit wasnt c.a.r.b. legal), i still have that car but now its mostly for the track. Now I also have an '07 s/c'd tc all the motor components(besides s/c) are stock but the stupid stealership's still havent given me the c.a.r.b. sticker for the s/c (wich can cause more hassels from the police) but since the car is pretty much (appearance wise) stock except for tinted windows and lowerd and the cops seem to leave me alone.....its all the loud exhaust's,clear tail lights, stickers, and rear wings that seem to catch the eye's and ear's of the police.

(my civic was stopped because of the loud exhaust noise....not crazy driving or shi.t like that)

^^ yup that's why i don't care that i have my stock exhaust on.. it's quiet like literally.. and i don't really care about the gains.. i hope i still make good numbers when i go back to tune.. but i'll be happy with just 275 lbs of torque on a stock exhaust..
