Default a lesson for all you SC'd tCs

Hey guys,

I just wanted to show you all what came in on the tow hook the other day. We had installed a TRD Blower on a car here at the dealership about three months ago. The entire car is stock with teh exception of the blower. This is what we found:

...and for those of you who STILL dont know what you are looking at...

Its number two hanging out the side of the block.
This is the result of a cold-start pounding. The car was started up, not given a chance to hit operating temp and than pushed quite hard. Freeze frame data shows the vehicle as being run for roughly 7 minutes and poping at about 75mph...

This is the kinda stough you guys have to be careful of. Its pretty much common sense, but i still wanted to refresh your memories. Even though its a TRD part, you still have to be careful and treat it like a grenade.

Some people are quick to jump to the gun and say "well its covered under warranty," but anyone who has ever dealt with the time a warranty claim on an engine takes, knows its not fun. This guy is not old enough for a rental and has been without his car for over a week and a half waiting for Toyota to OK the repairs. All and all, it could have been avoided had the vehicle been warmed up and driven a little less fearlessly.

Be nice to your cars

Ya, not letting your car warm up is fatal.

no, it is caused by boosting without letting the engine warm up.

wow thats horrible. I always let the car warm up for about a minute and then drive like a baby until it has reached operating temp. Even then i give it a few more minutes until i push it

so was the car idle for 7 min. then instantly beat on, or was it driven for the 7 min. then beat on?

for example, was the car at idle for 2 min. (warm up), then driven for 5 min. (drive to highway), then floored to get onto the highway...

on a cold day, you can jump right into your s/c'ed tc and drive off without a problem, just don't floor it and hit boost until it has reached proper operating temperature. so just take it easy, you can drive up to 75 mph 7 minutes after starting the car, just take your time getting to that speed.

The rod gave way at 75mph, 7 minutes after start up. So for those 7 minutes, prior to the boom, the kid was boosting all over the place.

i have a bypass that won't allow to start the car in any gear. It will only allow it to start in neutral. And the only time I put my car in a gear to turn it off is when I'm on a hill... And that's mainly when I go to SF. LA doesn't have hills like that...
