Default tanabe concept G with headers

hey guys, ever since I heard the tanabe concept g axel-back I have yet to hear a sytem that sounds better. One day when I have money ( ) I will buy it but there's one problem, I already have a DC sports header installed. Obviously now I'll need a custom midpipe built which is fine because Catback > axelback anyway. So I was wondering whats the best way to go about doing this, buy an aftermarket mid-pipe and chop of the resonator to weld on a larger one, or just get one made from scratch with some 2.5 in piping, a resonator, and some flanges. Also what size resonator should I be looking at? 30 in? Does anyone eles have this set up? I would love to hear some clips :-)

x2 on ur bday. it's gonna take some work to get rid of the rasp on the concept g, as i hear it's one of the worst sounding with a header, alongside the evo2 and trd. either of your options are good ones. i personally prefer to have the ability to bolt on and bolt off my stuff, so i would recommend the megan mid-pipe w/ a vibrant hi-flow cat and ibrant 21" resonator. the exhaust will be louder but it should take care of the rasp. or you could get the medallion touring and call it a day

Does medallian touring + headers not require a large resonator to kill rasp? I like the tip of the touring better than the G anyway . Oh also I kinda dont want to put anything by Megan on my car, so idk if any other companies make mid pipes or not. But I might just end up gaving one built from scratch if necessary...

I have the Tanabe Concept G...no header though, but I did bolt on a Megan S Pipe though. It did get a little louder but it's really deeper than before and not to mention it sounds really mean when I turn the key. There is a slight rasp, but that's only when I'm laying on it REALLY hard. Then again, I drive like a bat outta hell so that's just me. Get the Tanabe Concept G and a with a possible Invidia S-Pipe Custom Midpipe since you already have the header. Don't forget the Antifoulers for the CEL with the S-Pipe

WTF are you smoking? I have never heard that the Concept G is one of the worst sounding exhausts when mixed with a header. I would like to see a thread that has said that. Secondly, I am an owner that runs a MMW header (and previous owner of a DC Header) with my Concept G exhaust. You have to take your precautions likewise to any exhaust and get the necessary resonators.

You can get a cheap mid-pipe made at any local exhaust shop. Just put a high flow cat in. the reason the tC sounds like ___ with headers is because you lose a cat. The stock mid pipe has 1 cat on it and a resonater. but they don't do much. the megan mid pipe has just a resonater. i have the concept G and megan headers. i'm in the same boat as calvin. A friend of mine had a custom mid pipe made with a cat in it and it cleared it right up. The medallion style muffler will sound good with headers but thats because there is more sound deadening in it. if you have any questions feel free to shoot me a PM.

The thing is that with about any axle back exhaust that is canister style, you will have basically the same noise output (quality wise). If anything, I believe that the Concept G is better than most because of its ability to keep exhaust loudness to a minimal in the first place.

wow thanks for all the help so far . Yeah I just want the G because it is sooo deep . I spent some time on youtube and found that the medallion touring will sound alright with headers... but for the extra cause of that muffler as aposed to the canister G I could have a custom mid pipe built, so I guess I'll do that...
Again no Megan stuff for me so I guess I'll just have to start from scratch on the mid So do you guys recommend just a really long resonator, or just a fairly large resy with the addition of a high flow cat. I suppose I cat would be nice because I might aswell be somewhat clean for the environment ....

thanks again!

No i would recomend a high flow cat and a 30 inch resonater. just have an exhaust shop do it. forget pre-built stuff on N/A cars.

i have a 33" magnaflow resonator for sale, 2.5" pipe diameter. brand new in box, i ended up not needing it with my setup. PM me if you're interested.

by the way its better to get a longer resonator as well as a high flow cat than getting one too short and still have your car sounding like every other civic on the road. cause then to fix it you'll need to buy another longer resonator and pay to have the old one removed and the new one welded on =p

Sweet, thanks Syldrin I'll do that. I've almost got enough cash that I could order the axel back portion and just roll with that untill I get some more money scraped together for the mid pipe, but i dont think I could handle the rice.... How much would I be looking at for the midpipe to be built?

thanks, oh and does anyone have a measurement of how long the midpipe needs to be? And what type of flanges I'll need? I can find both these things out myself by lifting my car and takin a look but if anyone could save me the trouble... lol

normal flanges i would think, as long as the center is 2.5". the muffler shop would figure that out for you. as for the piping, not much since most will be taken up by a resonator and high flow cat. the shop can reuse the stock hangers too, chop em off and weld em on the new pipe.

They do the measurements and fitting. Because they weld and put stuff together.

Oh sweet I hadn't considered using the stock hangers. Oh and the reason I was asking about length is cuz my best friend's cousing is a really good welder. He could cut be a good deal to put it together. As long as he doesn't have to bend pipes or anything I think he'd be fine to do it. Looks like I'll just need to get under there with a tape measurer :-).
