Does anyone else think the xB horn is a lil..... uh wimpy? A few times now i lose my car in the sea of jacked up pickups at work, and i need to use my panic button to locate my car.... everytime it goes off, sounds like a horn that would go into one of the Power Wheels jeep things.....

I was thinking of getting dual air horns, but those some times are just as bad.... I'm looking for a horn that has balls. I was thinking one out of an old cadi, but any one have any segs for a horn w/ attitude? I would love those 18 wheeler air horns, but that means i need to remove my sub to fit the air compresser :P

I replaced mine with Fiamm Highway Blasters. You can see them at:
High note:
http://www.fiammamerica.com/Product.asp?ProductID=155
Low note:
http://www.fiammamerica.com/Product.asp?ProductID=156

They are easy to install with the factory hardware and sound great. When I hit my horn people's heads turn fast. They are rated for a minimum of 130dB.

I forgot to mention I bought the high note at Harbor Freight for $9.99 and the low note at Advance auto for about $16.

Ferraris and Lamborghinis use dual air horns. I don't consider them sissy. :?

I know of at least one Miata that has a diesel air horn. He has a small compressed air tank in his trunk (in one of the tunnels that run from the trunk to the cockpit) and fills it up from his compressor at home. One charge lasts quite a while, and that thing will most definitely get your attention.

You could mount these up (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/p-229/c-10101) as dual horns. Or one of these. (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/p-226/c-10101) Why not a train horn? (http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/ProductDisplay/s-10101/p-6204/c-10101) :D

The horn from just about any hunk of Detroit iron will do the job. There are pleny of junked cars to be found with perfectly good horns in them.

(Aw, but Daddy, I want something NEW and SHINY, either chromed or made from carbon fiber.)

$70 for a horn!!! I'd rather save the dough and have a girly sounding horn. Personally, I don't use my horn all that much.

actually, there have been studies performed on the pitch and tone of car horns....the tone toyota uses and other imports use has been proven to catch people's attention more than the "detriot muscle." Why doesn't detroit change? Image.

might want to try the european type horns. they don't sound japanesse or domestic. may catch peoples attention. i had them on my 1955 GMC show truck & they sounded loud enuff. sorry i can't remember the brand or the name but i bought them @ Pep Boys.

From personal experience I've noticed that my horns have attracted MUCH more attention since I've changed them. They are louder and much deeper. When people here beeps they think of small cars and don't seem to care. When they here Whooooooooooommmmmmmmmmmmmpppps they cringe in fear that they are about to be crushed by a 3 ton truck or larger and look to see how to get out of the way.

If that's true, there's no rule that says you can't mix your horns or have more than two -- the stock ones and some Detriot-style horns. Then, when you hit the horn, it sounds like a couple of drivers are ____ed off instead of just one.

The phrase "girly horn" cracks me up!

The first time I tooted mine I was suprised. I immediately got a mental image of Peter Sellers in one of his Pink Panther movies, disguised as a handyman and driving one of those strange looking European three-wheeled vans in congested downtown traffic, tooting that wimpy little meep meep Eurohorn in a pathetic attempt to get people to move.

That's an image I can live with. :D

it's not all about the effectiveness.... its about the "manliness" of it.... Yeah the best horn may sound like something off a Power Wheels, but I'm looking for more respect than anything.... Hey, with a stock xB, its hard enough to get respect in the first place

I know a guy that has an old Cadillac horn on his Miata. All it ever gets is *laughs,* not respect. He honks it just to get the surprised laughter.

I can reach mine through the hole where the fog light would be, but it's hard to tell what unscrews. Did you take your bumper off, or remove the honeycomb grill?

chadfo

I just popped out the upper grill and the driver's side foglight insert. I believe a 12mm socket will remove the original horns. Use a small rachet to remove the middle horn. It's right behind the fascia and there's not much room but it can be done without removing the bumper. Once the original horns are out just remove the mounting plates and attach them to the new horns and reinstall them. The only other modification I had to make was to cut the tape on the drivers side horn's positive wire mount so it would reach high enough for the larger horn.

One of my customers put a huge air horn in his xB....mounted an air compresser right behind the front rt headlight. The thing was LOUD! Sounded like a semi truck coming up behind you....it was great.

My friend's Porshe has a nice air horn on it. I was looking to get something like that for my car, but the semi truck horn is also appealing.

I have a separate set of air horns install, all six trumpets went into the left corner of the bumper, plus the compressor. When the button is depressed, six notes to the tune of the theme from "Godfather" will sound. The button is separate, therefore the stock horn is still usable.

U can try the sound of the horns from here, just click on products....

FYI, air horns are illegal for car here where I live.
