Well I was never into clear taillights so ever sense I got my xB I wanted to change the rear lights. I am not a big fan of "Altezza" style lights either, so I decided to do something a bit different.

Here is what I did:
1. masked outside edge and smoked it
2. masked turn signal and reverse light and painted whole light red
3. masked whole like except turn signal and painted it orange
4. cleared whole light.

I think it came out pretty good. I was only using spray cans, so it was hard to get it perfect. I have another set of lights, so I might do it one more time to see if Ican get it better.

look good, I know that I wouldn't be able to see any imperfections in the pics, but if there are some, try wet sanding

Yeah, a lot of people do that now. I've got an extra set coming now so I can give it a try, but yours look really well done. Good work!

amber is the turn signal, the color it is suppose to be, :roll: looks great to me

I second that. All cars should have amber turn signals.

i also painted mine .... did smoke for the reverse and painted the rest red... these are just temporary till my custom LED tails are done


also ... its jut the pic .. the left and right side are the same darkness .. it looks like the right is lighter in the reflector section .. but its not

are u talking to me ? ... if you are ... and are referring to the pic where the reflector on the right taillight looks lighter then the one on the left.. its just the way the pic came out .. in person they look exactly the same

it's all about red rear turnsignals and white front turn signals. sometimes when i cannot get white turn signals i wrun smoked front signals. amber is hideous.

Some think it’s ugly to have amber, but most don't. I guess that is why all the "JDM" corner lamps are sold in Amber. But you can do things how you like. I just want it to be different and more factory looking. I am planning on doing the side markers too.

This car is not going to be a racer version of an xB, which I don't understand anyways sense it’s a slug. But it will be VIP Minivan style. One Ton got just the right set up of Works coming for me, so watch out for that.....just a little teaser....

Well, I always believe to do it right the first time.... :)

Personally, I wouldn't have painted the turn signals amber. I would have left them clear with the amber bulbs... Same effect, looks better.

And I don't consider clear lights to be "racer style". Especially when they're stock... I don't think the Lexus RX looks "racer", it looks "baller"... Besides, spray-painting your stock lamps looks "racer"... or "ricer"

I think they originaly made the lights clear to look more upscale, and less "Astrovan"

I'm not hatin', to each his own... Just not feelin' it. I love the stock lamps.

I don't think they made them clear because of the RX330. Which in my opinion looks like a set of APC tail lights. But who knows, we are not the Scion designers. Look around Don "Ricer" cars are every where.

I just wrapped my tails in red vinyl. way cheaper and looks like paint. Then added my Option Wagon overlays witht he drviers side being reversed.

I thought about the amber, but we went straight red with mine. Those tails look great though...very OEMish. Great job!

I'm no good at posting photos but if you go to Urbanracer.com and go to the Scion Performance Challenge, click on page four and look to the bottom of the page. You'll see my taillights [and dual Magnaflow exhausts] which were removed from the car, painted and baked, then reinstalled. The lights and the exhausts were originally on Green Bean's xB, that's Ryan for you new comers, and switched out to mine when he up-graded. I'm ready to dump these lights for a new set of JDM customs from Japan, just waiting for delivery.
