Drove at night for the first time and I noticed no lighted switches for the mirror adjustment and dash light adjustment switches. I finally found the first thing I didn't like about my new box.

Is this just mine, or are they all that way ??
Any do a mod to light that area? I noticed a little lip on the dash above that whole panel, that a nice little LED might fit in ??!!??

Thanks

Mine doesn't light up either. just turn on your dome light to adjust them. I think it might have been done on purpose to keep people from adjusting their mirrors while driving...

that brings up another dislike...
most cars when you use the dimmer for the dash, there is a point where it will turn on the dome light.
the xB, no way. you have to reach up and behind your right shoulder...

That's a feature common to domestic vehicles.
I have owned several Mazdas, Hondas and Toyotas, none of which turned the dome light on from the dimmer switch.

ya, even my 1968 California Special (Mustang) has them.

Come to think of it, my 1964 Impala SS has that feature. 8) Oh well, we can't have everything....not for 14k anyway.

Could a dash mounted switch be added or fabbed up? Anyone?

The dimmer dome light control is normally just on domestic cars. Japanese made cars, in general, don't have the dome light wired in. That's why the switch on the dome light has three positions. I agree with you Davestoaster, put an LED there.

If you can touch type then you can do it without lights. It's not like defusing a bomb in the dark. if you push the wrong button then you push another one. I have to say that I love having a car that doesn't have loads of glowing crap in front of me. But I'm a minimalist.

I ran some EL wire right above it. it's not super bright or anything just lights it up enough to see it. did it to both sides no tape or had to glue anything. kida just wedged it in there til you couldn't see the wire. It's nice effect for when it's dark. I'll try to post pics but the light was too dim for it to acually show up right.

My lighting gripe is I would prefer it if the headlights went off with the ignition, like with past cars I've owned. Also, I figure if the cavemen at GM can put a light sensor in a mini pickup truck that turns the headlights on when it gets dark, then it can't be expensive or rocket science.

Those light sensors get me blinded almost nightly by the full size trucks because they apparently don't realize when the headlights come on they are on bright from the last time they were out in the dark. Either that or Chevy drivers are blind or too dumb to turn the high beams off. I will not doubt the latter of the two. I've owned one Chevy in my life and that's all I intend to ever own unless I can get my hands on a classic.

 I was about to rip into you until you said the part about the classic...I own a '64 Impala SS. 8)

Completely agree with you on the newer models- poorly built plastic piles. :)

The way you phrase everything here made me laugh, but I agree. I can find what I need now without looking, and I've only been in mine for a week.
