View Full Version : tC Speaker Sizes?
SayNoToShadySalesmen 11-27-2004, 01:37 AM Hey I've yet to get my car but I plan on putting in some component speakers. Does anyone know which size is needed? Which component speakers does everyone recommend for sufficent bass (not as loud as a sub) and clear highs?
mr_boomba 11-27-2004, 01:56 AM the interior speakers are 6.5 and 5.25... and as for speakers, i like both the JL and infinity... but it also depends on which head unit you run the speakers on... (alpine emphasizes their highs a bit too much...) :)
jeep2tc 11-27-2004, 02:15 AM i hate when all you hear is bass, i believe that the most important aspect of any stereo is the ability to hear the high, mid range, and bass. Clarity is very important to me. I have seen people put 12's in 5 gallon buckets so their car could 'bump'. I would rather be able to hear no distortion that be heard 2 blocks away. It seems like a better idea to spend a few extra bucks and go for nice sound, not just loud sound. But to each his own.

What type of speakers are you running then? What's a good deck that allows you to adjust multi-bands and not just 'bass and treble'?
jeep2tc 11-27-2004, 03:49 AM if you took my comment the wrong way, then i apoligize.I feel there is more to hooking up a stereo than getting an amp, subs, and turning it up loud. From my experiance, you can tune from the amps even if you don't have an eq.
basically this is a simple explination
1 make sure you setup the filters (hi or low depending on what your powering)
2 turn the gain on the amps all the way down to zero
3 turn the stereo to the loudest that you will ever turn it up to
4 adjust the gain on the amps untill you have a sound you are happy with and that doesn't distort
from that point on, you can make smaller adjustments on treb and bass, but you will know your system will sound great even when you turn it up loud.
it takes a litle more time to tune it,, but it is worth it
my old car had infinity kappa speakers inside powered by a pheonix gold 50x4
and a single 10" solobaric in a '91 accord.
i hope this was helpful, and again i didn't want to ____ anyone off
Boom12V 11-27-2004, 04:29 AM The sizes are 6.5 and .75 to 1" tweeter and 5.25" rear. As to what to run for components. I have hear it said the threre are some conversations that you will never win.
1) Politics
2) Religion
3) Pizza toppings
and
4) Loud speakers
It is very personal, what sounds good to you. Over the years I have had my favorites, ADS, Focal, Dyn, and Morel. I will also say that we (Memphis Car Audio) has really worked on our components for 2004 / 05. We are also awarded the 2004 Manufacture of the year. An award we took from JL they have had that award for the last four years and should be proud of themselves. For us we have two very nice sets of components. The first is our MCSQ6.5 and 5.25 a set worthy of being compared to some of the afore mentioned brands. The Second is the SYNC6, SYNC5 and SYNC8 thats right an 8" set of components :o. I like the combination of the MCSQ6.5 up front and the SYNC5 in the rear. The SYNC components have a tweeter mounted in the center of the mid, but it can be removed to mount it in a factory location. Find A dealer near you and give them a try. Most important of all enjoy what ever you buy.
sciontc627 11-20-2006, 02:03 AM I plan on changing my stock speakers with Diamond D661A components for the doors and also in the rear in 5 1/4",,is it true that I will need to get speaker adapters so that they will fit right?
chillaxin 11-20-2006, 02:13 AM Question.
if i were to buy a "good" set of front and back set of components, a "good" amp, and a "good" pair of two 10' subs, would i be able to use the factory installed pioneer thats comes with the ipod upgrade. and still get good sound?
Zebman 11-20-2006, 02:16 AM Yes. The front speakers are 6.5" normally, and the rear are 5 1/4". I'm pretty sure you need spacers for most aftermarket speakers anyways.
For 6.5" spacers/adapters, visit www.yoursciontc.com and head to the audio section. There will be a sticky topic by Alpman, who sells MDF spacers and amplifier wiring harnesses.

My personal opinion is that the stock HU doesn't have enough sound shaping options to put aftermarket speakers to use. It doesn't have RCA outs either, so you'd have to buy an amp wiring harness. Just follow the same directions I listed above for the spacers to find Alpman's add-an-amp harness thread.
chillaxin 11-20-2006, 02:25 AM so a waste of $260 :(

I'd consider a new HU one of the first things to do. Who knows, it may be enough for your likings. I'm a musician though, so I would appreciate some "cleaner" components. The cymbal reproduction right now makes me sad. :(
nlombardi1 01-09-2007, 01:43 AM i know the diameter fits. but how about the depth??
will these dimensions work for front and back?
Speaker Size: 6 1/2"
Top Mount Depth: 2.56"
Bottom Mount Depth: 3.69"
Tweeter Protusion: n/a"
Mounting Height: 1.0"
Cutout Diameter: 5.63" :ponder:
L4rry_B1rd 01-09-2007, 01:49 AM just FYI, dont bother with the rear speakers. just get some kick @ss components for the front, prob even get something a little better since you dont have to buy speaks for the rear. The front is the most important for sound, the rear is just fill. The stock rear speakers will do just fine for fill....
nlombardi1 01-09-2007, 02:41 AM i'm getting components for the front and components for the back too and competition subs and competition amp...but will those speaker dimensions fit?? i'm not sure about the depth size?? so i would like to know if they would fit?
Zebman 01-09-2007, 02:54 AM You will definitely need spacers. Even then, it's a big if. Mandos has fit EU-700s in his front door panels, and they're 3.5" mounting depth. You may want to contact him for his opinion. What speakers are you getting that are that big?
TeeCizzle 01-09-2007, 03:34 AM Ok..I have a question!!...
Can I run Better speakers off my stock HU??...
Will the Better speakers sound a lot better...
or should I just get an Amp and run the speakers off that??..

their polk audio SR6500. Where can I get these spacers?
Zebman 01-12-2007, 01:12 AM I'm waiting on a pair for the front and rear from Alpman at yoursciontc.com.

You can get a pair of front door spacers from edesignaudio.com for 6.5" speakers if you don't need the rear.

I don't need spacers for the rears? :ponder:
Zebman 01-12-2007, 02:55 AM You probably will. I don't think Elemental Designs makes baffles (spacers) for the rear quarter panels though. They don't specify on their page, which would be a great help.
mandos 01-12-2007, 10:26 PM Nope, just front ones.
That's why they're listed as Front Door baffles :)
Didn't make any for the rear because...well...we seem to have all "misplaced" the rear speakers.
nlombardi1 01-12-2007, 11:08 PM so what do i use for the rear then?? i need to have rear speakers as well.
Zebman 01-13-2007, 03:02 AM Nope, just front ones.

Har har har. :ttth:
Hey Chris, do you ever get my PMs? I know i'm like a dog humping your leg, but you've been the most help to me out of the people i've talked to, and i'm trying to work the last few tiny kinks out of my coming install.
nlombardi1 01-15-2007, 01:28 AM do i take out my stock rear speakers?? or what? cuz i want to replace them. what should i do?
Zebman 01-15-2007, 02:10 AM You are going to need the spacers for the rear that Alpman sells. Look at my post on the last page.
mxrider400 03-31-2009, 09:00 PM well considering i just put in a new system in my tc, i went all alpine type R. the person that said that 5.25" in the rear i have 6.5"s in the rear. Usually when you match speakers and the deck made by the same company everything just seems to sound a lot better. i have a PDX 1.600 amp and a Type R 12 in the back and it hits harder than enyone will need, but with the type R 2 ways in the rear and Type R components in the front it sounds amazing...the only thing wrong with my system is that i have a Pioneer AVH-400DVD touch screen in the dash and its getting way too old for the new demands of car audio...
GQQSE13 03-31-2009, 11:57 PM Yes. The front speakers are 6.5" normally, and the rear are 5 1/4". I'm pretty sure you need spacers for most aftermarket speakers anyways.
.
thought rears were 6.5" as well
ryan2339 08-12-2011, 09:51 PM The fronts are a component set in the 2011 TC. The bottom ones actually house a 6X9. Shine a light into it and you will see. The mid is a 3.5 inch and the tweeter is a 1 inch. The rear is a 5 1/4 inch. If you want good clear sound, get a 3 way component set for the fronts. All component sets come with a 6.5 inch so you would need an adapter for it to fit in the 6X9 hole. Most component sets come with a 4 inch mid range, installation shops say they can fit. I recommend. JL audio, Focal, or Boston Acoustics for a 3 way component set. For best results power them with an amp instead of the deck. I haven't changed mine as yet. I haven't decided what brand to go with. I want to put a 2 way component set in the rear. I just don't know where to add the tweeter in the rear. Installation shops also say 6.5inch can also fit the back. Any thoughts guys and gals!!!
ryan2339 08-12-2011, 09:54 PM I have the same PDX 1.600 amp in my tc powering 2 rockford fosgate HX2 subs. The amp works great. When you put the 6.5s in the rear, did you need a bracket to get them to fit?
I recommend you get the new alpine ina-w910 head unit. I have an older IVA-W205 with GPS and BT, I'll be putting it up for sale soon to get the w910
