Pretty nice... can't wait to see it with the wheels. Do I see orange peel or is it just dirty?

Why remove the rear wiper and leave the washer nozzle on? Without the door handles the side are very plain needs some nice multi colored graphics to break up the plain flat panels. I am not downing the vehicle just my opinions When there are becoming so many of these boxes it is hard to get something different but this is well on the way to being different I give it an A+ for not being covered with off the shelf stuff.

i love the look, but some things just didn't look right.

not trying to be picky just making observations (because i want to do the sahved look too)

1. when the factor stamps out the door handle holes, it dimples a large area.
(see the third pic, the pass side of the two tone). you can follow the dark line and when it breaks up, this is the dimple from stamping.
it should have been filled in better. (it is less visable in the 4th pic, but still there)
2. the rear hatch looks flawless (what's with the line???)
3. the 5th pic shows the most disturbing thing of the paint job. here we see a three quarter rear view with a hot lava in the back ground.
if you look at the hot lava it looks shinny, and very crisp clear reflection (you can make out the dude standing there with a camera).
if you look at the side of the two tone (in the same pic) it is very blurry, not crisp but feels flat. (looks like it needs blocking and polishing)

itsalmost as if it still need the clear coat (the tape on the hatch where the black needs to be filled in leads me to this idea. but i would not think the painter would paint it up to this point and let the car out of the paint booth only to clean/prep it again to clear coat it)

over all i say it was a good job (not great but still nice)

Why remove the rear wiper and leave the washer nozzle on?

because its a 2-tone paint job, the top was left black. so there would either be a hole up there or some filler

I see what you are talking about, and I noticed in person too, its not that major though, and you have to look at it straight down the side

2. the rear hatch looks flawless (what's with the line???)
that line is where they were suppose to stop painting red, notice how the red is higher there. so they are going to paint it again. so ita a peice of tape
3. the 5th pic shows the most disturbing thing of the paint job. here we see a three quarter rear view with a hot lava in the back ground. if you look at the hot lava it looks shinny, and very crisp clear reflection (you can make out the dude standing there with a camera).if you look at the side of the two tone (in the same pic) it is very blurry, not crisp but feels flat. neither cars look shinny to me in the picture, it is fine in person

I would also like to remind everyone this is not mine, but a friend's

a bright sunny day always makes things look better.

i can see the diff. the hot lava (right next to the brake light) there is a nice sharp line of a persons reflection. but even the full on rear shot, you can not see a crisp edge of a reflection.
the first pic of it painted, the hot lava in the back has a sharper feel. the two tone one in front does not (there is a persons reflection by the headlight, it feels all fuzzy/blurry)

if the paint is 'fresh' it may still flaten out and get crisper, as it dries....

if that is smarass's ride (i think you said it is) i will have to check it out when he opens up his shop in atco.

looks damn good...

A couple things which would make it better (IMHO):

1. Get a spoiler, (OEM or OEM style carbon fiber... this will also cover the wiper fluid nozzle)

and 2. Claybar and Zaino the holy hell out of it

Good Job!!

im sorry i thinks it ugly the paint looks horrible and looks like 100 paint job, why buy a new car and totaly change it and make it more plain than the car already is, im totaly up for custom jobs and being different, but that just looks ugly, you should have added a body kit before shaving it to give the car a different look, than i think it would look pretty cool but a shaved stock xb aint getn the job done, you gots to step up ur game, and one more thing i would ask for a refund on that paint job, i paint cars for a living and that looks like spray paint

Ouch...

It does look a bit rough, as far as the texture, but you can see the major shine on the pic that is the driver side looking down at the ground. Also, there looks to be a lot of flake in the color, so that would screw up some types of digital cameras. Besides, it's just paint, they could spray it again later. Of course, paint ain't cheep and it takes forever to mask the rest of the car.... but it can be done.

Dropped, with a set of nice wheels, it will look great going down the road.

nice. was waitin to see it done. i like the rear hatche but am wondering why he inset the plate soo deep. cool tho. not my colors but cool. MUST BE NICE>one other thing. why is the rear bumper not an exact match to the car. painted at seperate times? hmm. maybe it's just me but in that drivers side ic you can see that the bumper is slightly darker than the body.

Any Idea on how much just they would have charged for a shave and keep it stock color? I'll be in the Virginia beach area and I'd be interested in finding a shop that could do body work in the area

BoomBox757

umm if your going to shave it you mine as well do atleast a 2 tone, cause they would have to do all the doors and the hatch as well, I can find out some prices for you at a shop that has a very good reputation

btw when i said that a lot of time was put in i meant the shaving and frenching of the liscense plate. the paint looks kind of iffy as maybe he did it quickly and didnt spend enough time on it. i dont know. like i said, its not my style. the color combination is off i think. :(

couple of those look photoshoped?? (esp. photo # 3 near door handles)

maybe thats what someone is seeing as dimples?

no doubt the guy really did these mods, but that photo looks funny...

BoomBox757
11-28-2004, 03:40 AM
nope none are photo shoped, the guy that took them doesn't know how to photoshop and i'm not that good, i pulled them straight out of my email and put them on the web.

what you are seeing is where the body line is and the filled holes arn't as sharp as the rest of the line. you really can't tell, but the reflection of the building throws it off

Alright everyone heres the deal with it all...

The car was just painted. I havent even washed it yet. Im letting it cure for about a week before I do crazy on it. I am goign to wetsand and buff the entire car.

The paint is a cardinal red with a red pearl. It shines alot in teh sun and looks very dull in the dark.

The license plate box is frenched is deep becuase I used the factory latch button on it.

I didnt put a kit on becuase Im bagging it and dont want to lower my car with body panels. I want it to be on the grounf with stock body.

I am still adding a silver pinstripe and some graffix once the paint cures

The OEM spoiler will be going on soon

I did all the work myself the welding/frenchinh body and paint. Im not the best at it but hey I did it all. I had my friend paint it becuase I was to busy moving to NJ and I think I am going to switch to a different color once I get set up up in NJ.

I left the wiper sprayer becuase I didnt have time to get rid of it and repaint it.

The tape on the back was where I painted the black over again to match the line up.

You have to see it in person to see what the color really looks like. Its a awsome color when its in the sun.

The worst part about these xbs is the metal is so damn thin you cant really weld to them without warping it a little. And when you need about 400 welds on the trunk and 30 on each handle it takes forever and still warps. Would have turned out alot better.

I wish it was a old car made with real steel.

i agree, i wish the metal was beter to work with.
you did a lot of work to the xb, and i bet it will look 10x better when you get around to wet sanding it (it will solve a lot of the comments aboutit looking dull/fuzzy)

i think most issues are from the way this thread was posted. did you give permission to post the pics of you ride. if so the poster should have gave a better story to go with the pics.
as the current story was giving the idea it was finished, but you are saying there was still more to go.
i can't wait to see it 100% finished (bags, rims, painted again....)
keep up the hard work, let us know when your NJ shop will be open (what will you be able to do there???)

It is a good job. you looked into the pics to find mistakes not just looking at it. I LOVE the taillights. Imagine BOP. Oooooo

Thanks Man for saying this.

Some of the statements on this thread are just plain cruel. I very hurriedly took these pictures and must admit; while I was taking them it never occurred to me they would be critiqued with such critical eyes. I was only trying to focus on the modifications done to the car. This car was fresh out of the paint shop and it had been raining.

It is one hot xB if you see it in person, but just like my Lava it is not perfect. The owner is very particular with his cars and I’m sure he was crushed to read these comments especially since you can see it is work in progress. All the tape was not even removed. Before I left the painter took to car back into the shop and was working on it.

Sorry Smartass if I misrepresented your car with the pictures I took. You owe no apologies. I saw the pictures of your Eclipse. When your xB is finished it will be the envy of a lot of us Scion owners.

PS: Yes Will I’m old but I do know how to photo chop but there was no necessity to do it on this occasion

the way it was posted, it came across as a finished product (which is now found to be false).
if it was finished the paint looked bad.
the metal work to shave it was good but the paint (the most visable part) was rough.

i too liked the work on his other car, which shocked me to see the xb like that.

again if the story of the pics came with the pics, it would not have been critiqued so harshly.
just because you knew the story of the car does not mean all of us do!!

BoomBox757

the bottom has tons of metal flack in it as does the top.

and how did I bring it in as a finished car, you should beable to tell just by seeing the tape still on the car, all I was suppose to do was put up the pics while he was moving

it also did not say there was work still to be done....
the pics gave a before/after feel. after pics are most often finished products. again a beter story would have prevented assuming.

I will be making it sit on the ground with the stock body when Im done.

Holy orange peel batman

jesus christ people - do most of you not read entire threads before letting stupid just fall out of your mouths and gunk the floor all up? Even IF it was actual orange peel and not just dirt and low picture resolution... WHAT DOES IT MATTER :!: :?: :!: What's the exercise in pointing that out when just a few posts up the page they say IT IS NOT COMPLETED AND THE PAINTER WENT BACK TO WORK AS SOON AS THE PICTURES WERE TAKEN!?!

orange peel is removed at the end of the painting process - the painter WASN'T DONE when the shots were snapped.

Quit being a troll. Read the whole damn thread, then make a stupid comment if you still have to.

a new peice of metal was welded in, and then body filler to make it smooth

i hate that bondo got such a bad rap...
it is a very usefull product if used right.
it is only ment for shallow fills and does wonders for straightning out the lines on a car...

the car in the pic was done right... metal welded on then a skim coat to fix any small problems....

Man.. i wish i was in States to check his shaven xB.... if i drive something like that back home here, i think the folks here will go crazy ! They will definately be wondering "how the hell do i get into this car ??" Will love to see the look on their faces. haha..

Btw will this kind of mod into trouble in the law in states ?Not meaning any bad intentions (touchwood), I mean its like in a emergency how will the pharamedics figure how to open them doors? :?:

they break sh$t... your ins will pay for it...(if you have ins)

they don't have time to waste...
what if the doors were locked (like many alarms do when you start driving) you get into a wreck and the electrical system goes dead (no battery all fuses blown...)
they break the windows....

Jus to let ya'll know it was my fiancee that has been posting under my name. I am not like that, i think it looks great. He has a lot of friends who paint and he said he didn't read the entire thread and he thought it looked like poop cuz he has seen many cars get painted including his. Jess

Sorry guys, i didn't want to make that statement as my first impression. I'm getting my xB as soon as i sell this POS aveo. Hopefully mine can look that good one day. Later all Jay

One prob about shaved handles... A buddy of mine did it to his show civic, he began having trouble w/ the pop mech. It would click, but wouldnt pop the door out... So a few times he had to craw through the trunk. Plus if you park on a slope, so the door has to open up hill....yeah.... Well i think the window way would be batter, a little more fail-safe

ProjectFusion
12-10-2004, 03:56 AM
parking on a slope doesn't matter, that's what the popper is for. The popper will just put it out a few inches won't give it enough to swing back shut.

windowtint
12-10-2004, 04:24 AM
that's also why you're supposed to have a hidden manual method for activating the door poppers - basically - there's a cable or lever hidden somewhere that pops the lock (just like your hood lever or gas lid lever)

it is illegal, but not many people care. if you crash, they will break the windows, and then you have to pay for it

That's a sweet ride. I'm shaving my doors and 2-toning my paint. Also shaving the side markers, they're insignificant. Not sure if I'll shave my hatch or not though, already took off the emblems on it. I saw an xB with the roof pleats gone and I liked it a lot. That could be a project down the road.

I think it looks really neat with that combination of the 2 tone colour. Hope to see more picts of the box in different angles. If possible can you take picts of all the sides ? I think that colours is really nice.. cool blue..

how do u open th doors?

hotbox05
12-22-2004, 11:43 AM
you use door poppers. basically electrically operated motors that open the doors. and hey will where did u get that shaved doors are illegal? i've looked thru laws and cannot find anything that states shaved door handles at all. well ok . l8

BoomBox757

they are here. I tried to get mine shaved awile back and acouple places wouldn't do it cause its illegal, then the rest said that I would never pass inspection

redneck69
12-23-2004, 02:24 AM
inspection? when does your car get inspected????

BoomBox757
12-23-2004, 03:48 AM
once a year

ProjectFusion

glad they don't inspect them here.

1loxBchick
12-23-2004, 06:28 AM
we go through inspection but all they check are you turn signals, lights and horn.... if you take it to an oil change place, they check your window tint so I won't be taking mine there to get it inspected next year.... when I get some better shots of the box, I'll post them on here.... thanks for the comments

BoomBox757
12-23-2004, 06:39 AM
you might want to check, they might look at the door handles too

1loxBchick
12-27-2004, 05:01 AM
lots of people around here shave the handles and no one's had a problem so far with getting it passed
