Is anyone running a really wide 15" wheel?

http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity-Race/4666/img153.jpg
I know these Work Equip 01s are 15x7.5 which seems a bit wide … I'd guess a 15x7 would look pretty good.

I'm really diggin' this look. Is anyone sporting this wheel size (or similar)?

Man, I so wouldve gotten those wheels if I hadnt already bought my 16x7s. That is so the look I wanted....but just didnt know it. Im lookin for some nice 5 spoke 15x6s for my wifes xA to use with the stock tires. 8)

It is definately a different look than the big rim/little sidewall look (which looks good, too IMHO).

The "deep dish" look (or at least smaller-diameter-but-wider look) seems to be popular with some of the European tuners (e.g. VW), too. I think it looks a bit more "racy."

Kinda like this …

I ran 15x7 Axis mag lites for about 2 months and I even ran them when I went to Sema, I used the stock tires on them, they have a great ride and a real cool look. I recently sold them cuz I am adding a body kit and got recently sponsored by a rim company and am currently running 19's. I'll probably pick up a set maybe 16x8, if I can find the right offset.

hey NILO did you ever take pics of your car on the maglites? Ive often considered getting the 17's for my xb but ive been uncertain how theyd look. If they are somewhere on here could you post a link? thanks in advance

cool, I'll if Adrian has a pic of themshould bust the 17" Maglites, I wanted to do it but i'm already running 3 different sets. You should do it cuz I don't think anybody has done it yet and I think they'd look dope p;us the wheels are super light and very easy on the engine. The 15' I had were only about 7 lbs each.

Does anyone make any 15x7 or 16x8 wheels that aren't super expensive? I know the WORK wheels go for like $330 a pop!

Someone on the board is selling a set of Work Euroline DH's in 15x6.5 for a really good price. They'd be on my xB by now if my S.O. didn't hate them so much ... but that's another story.

I'm looking at the Helo Ax in 15x7 now:

AXIS offers their maglites
at 15x7 size(thats the only 15" size)
its a nice size for track! 205/50 sized
tires fit nice and perfect.
when u put a 15x6.5 tire on there.. it feels
sloppy..

hit up ADRIAN(SCIONINLA)
he has the direct hookup for all axis stuff

Can you elaborate a bit on this? Is it the handling that feels sloppy? Do you mean 15x6.5 wheel?

BboXedin
01-15-2004, 03:25 PM
i didnt know 15x6.5 was a tire size...hmmm.. gotta read more i guess..

anyways i have 205/50 series tires on my 15x6.5 and i dont have any problems..

you can even fit 195/50 on 15x8s.. its called stretch and i'm sure that handles good too

doesnt exactly matter how wide the tires are.. its the tires that matter..

maybe some aftermarket rims from the ae86 corolla will work. they run the same bolt pattern and people will flare the fenders out really far. the ae86 never runs large rims.

CleanS14

It doesn't really matter what size wheel you get as long as the offset is correct. Plus it's a matter of personal preference. IMO you just don't want a sunken in wheel... flush with a lip is good... but even no lip at times is sexxxy. If you're going to get a 1Xx7 wheel I'd suggest a 0 offset up front and maybe a -20-24mm or so in the rear (if they even have those in a 15x7)

hahajoey
01-15-2004, 09:36 PM
what i meant to say is:
if u get a 6.5" width rim
and u run 205 series tires.
it feels like ___ compared to a 7" width
rim with a 205 series tire.

i have tried 6.5 and by 7.. theres a BIGASS
difference when u turn harder or what not.

lots of people run 205 series on a 6.5 rim.
but im just trying to tell u. it feels sloppy
if u compare the two.

CleanS14
01-15-2004, 11:31 PM
Of course naturally this would be the case since the sidewall of the tire has some give in it. That is why usually you'd like to run a tire even less than that width/series...

Joey - that's interesting. On my Civic, I'm running a 15x6.5" wheel with 205/50/15 and the steering feels WAY overboosted and sloppy compared to my fiancée's stock 14s (185/65/14) on her Civic sedan. I wonder if that's why. But then again, that wouldn't make sense because she's got a 65 mm side wall and I have a 50mm. Hmmm...

i just got my 15x8s on monday with 195/45 yokos. im thinkin bout goin with a more beefy tire like the ones on the picture above to fill the wheel well more. even tho im planning on goin pretty low its gonna look weird with the low profile tires on such a small wheel. We'll see after i get them on there with a different suspension set up. my 1.25" drop looks like a 3" lift with the 15s on.

edit: Heres a pic of them.

Finally got a good photo of my 15x7s ... of course it wasn't one I took myself! Here they are:

http://autoimportcraze.com/images/chinatown04/cl104.jpg

These are Helo Ax 15x7s. I'm told the offset is +38. Weight is unknown but probably a little bit heavier than stock -- I haven't noticed much of an effect on performance either way. The stock tires fill out quite nicely -- when the time comes I'll see if I have space for something a bit wider. So far quality seems very good considering the price (about $160 each).

Still pondering the fender flares ...

CleanS14
01-27-2004, 05:35 PM
Don't get the fender flares unless you plan on getting new wheels with a much lower even negative offset. If you don't your xB will look like it's hovering!!! Actually that might look cool... but I'm sure not the effect you'd be looking for.

You may be right about the flares ... it's just about flush in front but nowhere close in back. It wouldn't come out nearly as nice as this (random photo I took at Chinatown Showoff on Sunday):

Look up the specs for your particular tires on tirerack.com. According to the specs the Goodyears that came on my xB can be used on rims up to 7" -- so the 15x7s I got were right at the limit.

Very nice picture and the rims look great ( Nice Job )

The 15 inch rim looks rather good, I am searching for rims and tires for the Lava, was leaning toward 17x7.5 but the 15x7 with factory tires fills in great and saves some serious cash !

House of Steel: That's not my car. (I wish it were!)

I'm thinking that 15x7.5 is the way to go, though. The WORK Equip 01s (pictured above) are that size. Then again, maybe with the right offset a 15x7 would look similar.

What's the stock offset on the Scion's 15" wheels?

What's the stock offset on the Scion's 15" wheels?

Crude measurements suggest it's about 15x6, +38.

One crucial fit point for 15x7s is a bolt head sticking out of the rear axle frame that runs close to the sidewall. My tires clear it with juuuuussssttt enough room to spare. I think whoever suggested 15x7, +25 is about right (if you can find 'em).

And I'm loving those Works. I hope someone makes a high-quality knockoff, or that they end up in the closeout section at Super Autobacs, or something!

That red bB is still one of my favorite cars! I'm not sure what the offset is onthe Equip 01s. I know they're 15x7.5, though.

One other thing about the "wide-and-stretched" look is that you'll have to get your vehicle really low for it to look right, IMHO. Another forum member pointed that out to me.
