Not really new wheels but I finally got around to powder coating my 5zigen wheels flat black. The wheels are 17x8.5 +48. I was running 245/40-17 tires but I decided to go wider. I got a set of Falken Azenis RT-615 in a 255/40-17. I had some clearance issues up front so I had custom 11mm wheel spacers made for all the wheels.

One question though... why did you go with a 40-series sidewall even though you're on a 17" rim ?

255/40 is perfect

 

Just wondering, since our 17's come with a 45-series sidewall.

I didn't know if there was a specific reason for it.

 

yea its 215/45 from factory but he has 255 so to make up for the extra width to keep the speedo in check it would need a 40 series tire (i think), 255/45 would be too much meat

 

Stock tire size = 215/45-17. Overall diameter 24.61in.

255/40-17 Overall diameter 25.03 in.

That is lees than a 2% difference in the speedometer.

The best way to answer how to pick a side wall height that will match the stock diameter is to remember the sidewall number is % so with a 215 45 17 the side wall is 45% of the width,so with 255 40 the side wall is 40% of the width.wider tire you can use a lower profile and still keep pretty much the same side wall height off the rim.....did that make sense.
