I bought a paint scratch removal kit from www.paintscratch.com, and was going by the step by step process from http://www.bettercarcare.com/articles.php?articleId=27

However, I'm using the rubbing compound that came with the kit, rather than the 3M buffing stuff. I'm using 1500 Grit Sandpaper to sand the area. After I apply the rubbing compound, most all of the scratches are gone, however I still get an abrassive look to the area. I just realized that I might have to apply a lot of pressure to the area, something I did not do. I will try this when I get home, but would like to have any input on the situation.

Any tips or suggestions?

If it looks like the abrassive look is more scratches then maybe more compound is needed to remove them however it sounds like the compound is what is causing it. Sounds to me like you are using an abrassive compound and will need to use a polish or glaze to remove the haziness and bring out the shine. If you are using anything but a fine compound, be careful as it will remove a good amount of your clear coat.

Sand in one direction, and ONLY wet-sand your car. Use a detailing lubricant like Meguiar's Quik Detailer.

After you sand, use a buffing compound to smooth it out, then go over it with a 'scratch remover' wax. Remember, the more you sand, the rougher it will get.
