Well let me tell you before someone else gives you false info. 2 main kinds of coilovers Sleeve Type Coilovers - Cheap its pretty much just a spring and a sleeve with a collar which allows height adjustability. You will need to purchase shocks to go with these. Common brands are Ground Control and Skunk 2. Full Coilover - Pretty much this is a race type suspension. Works sort of like the sleeve coilover but the shocks are integrated in and match perfectly for the best in handling. Fully adjustable from height to firmess or softness. Now I had Sleeve type Ground Controls and had friends with Full Coilovers. Nothing but headaches. Car would not align properly and we were going through tires like crazy( we had camber kits as well). Thing about coilovers is when you adjust the coilovers you mess up the whole geometry of the suspension and the only true way to set the car up properly is to get it corner weighted. Pretty much you bring the car onto a scale and adjust the height of the car with the weight of each corner in mind. Your from CA I would just get regular type drop springs. RayDiz 11-28-2004, 09:46 PM u suggest the regular ones???adjustable just to much of a headache then huh?? i see the adjustable in magazines and stuff but never really looked in to them. i wanted the adjustable because i heard that with the regular the ride gest stiffer and dont want to be bouncing around, i thought that with the adjustable i could have both, soft and stiff. Its not hard, just you may need to corner balance, and over course you need to align any car is that lowered. hotbox05 12-02-2004, 11:27 PM not any car but most cars. xa's and xb's dont really NEED it. i'm sure it helps but it is not a necessity brownbanana 12-05-2004, 11:51 PM SPRINGS ARE THE BEST WAY TO GO. the best?? i wouldnt say so...but for the price you pay for them, they are...best bang for buck is springs, but the BEST would be a complete coilover system with adjustable damper or even those that let you customize the spring rates and such. |
