Default iPhone overheats when connected to stock iPod cable

Just got a 16GB iPhone and am using it with the iPod cable.

1. Cable connector doesn't fit as smoothly as it did with my iPod.
2. iPhone is very hot at end of session (about 30 minutes), which is supposedly bad for longterm battery life. The iPod never did this, and I'm worried that the apple pin config is different.

Any thoughts?

I might try taking the home dock with me and plugging the Scion cable into that, and shoving it into one of the cupholders if it will fit.

I get the same thing with my 8GB iPhone - so you're not alone. I just use my iPod for music for that reason. I've never tried the dock like you said. Let us know if that helps.

I also have an iPod car charger and if I remember correctly that overheats the phone too.

Hmmm. I use my iPhone with the iPod cable every day, about 45 minutes each way, and don't get any heat issues at all. Not sure what would cause that to happen?

now that's really strange...

I haven't connected my iPhone to my car lately. Maybe one of the recent firmware updates has helped. But since the original poster has the newer 16GB iPhone I would assume he has the latest firmware (and it's still getting hot).

Default Update

Heat may depend on how the iPhone is plugged in. The cable definitely fits a little more snugly into the phone than the pod, I'm not sure why. Today I did not have heat issues.

I did try connecting through the dock, but Scion was unable to detect the iPhone that way.

Thanks all for your help!
