I lowered my 05 XB with Tanabe DF 210 springs and kept the stock struts.
I have had them for about six months and roughly 1700 miles ( I don't drive it every day)
I strarted hearing a loud clunk fron the front wheel a few days ago. I haven't hit anything
out of the ordinary, and everything seems to be tight and fine.
It's not the wheel, nor the rotor nor the spring. i already ruled those out.
Anyone else here dealt with this before?
BTW, I had the car aligned the same day I lowered it at the toyota dealer.
Thanks.

Might be a bent or blown strut. Could also check and make sure all the bolts are tight on the top and bottom of the strut.

Check to see if the upper shock bolt is tight...the one where you have to lift the black rubber cap to get to--it's in the engine bay.

Yup, sounds like the strut bolt, that sits in the top hat, came loose. Like Jason stated^^^, pull off the black cap and see if its loose. It happened to me on my coilovers one day.

scary man. i always double check stuff like 200 miles after i finish something like that . ust because i had a wheel come off my bmw once. way too scary. i knew those spacers were a bad idea. . probablky just a loose nut . check and see. easy fix. if not that . when does it clunk all the time ? up and down driveways? or when u hit bumps in the road.

Might be the strut mount. Mine has gone bad on the left frt and I have Spy's 2" drop. Only makes noise on speed bumps and drive ways.

Dude, you are the man!
Exactly what was wrong. The nut was half way up the stud and the strut was moving up and down whenever I ran over a bump.
It's nice to have a nice and quiet front suspension again.
Thanks a bunch.

I have been having a similar crunching sound from the left-front wheel area of my xB and had taken it to the dealer I purchased several times to have them "fix" it. Unfortunately, they could never reproduce the sound enough to figure out what was causing it and they inspected the whole suspension. The last time I took it there they tried to tell me that everything was within manufacturer's specs and the sound I have been hearing was "normal."

I decided to take it to another dealer and they told me that the strut bolt was loose. They tightened it and for the next couple of days the sound was gone. Now, it's back again. The sound most often occurs going over speedbumps at a rather slow speed (I never go over them very fast anyhow :) ) Does anyone know why this might be happening again? Could the strut bolt have gotten loose again in just 2 days?!?

I used to own a Toyota Tercel and had a similar "crunching" sound which a mechanic told me was most likely due to a cracked strut carriage mount or something like that. This was after a different mechanic told me I needed a new strut, installed it for me, but the "crunching" sound continued to persist.

Ideas?

when you change your springs, you must remove the nuts to take off the struts...

Either they were not tight enough, or torqed right...

Usually those nuts are locknuts,I cant remember on the Scions.
The nylon may have worn out.
You may also want to try some blue threadlocker.
If the blue wont hold it,the red will, but youll have a hellofuh time trying to get it back off.
