Try not to defy the laws of physics again by hydroplaning @ 10mph. That would be a good start.

yeah, i think you have to be going atleast 35 mph to hydroplane and even then it would have to be standing water and you'd have to be on some bald-___ tires.

and warranty covers manufacturer defect, not "i don't know how to drive and crashed and broke something and i want it fixed for free"

anyway, wtf happened? you hit a puddle, hydroplaned and...what spun out? hit something?

i just drove home in a HUGE downpour through some very deep puddles. you f'ed up your car, warranty won't cover that.

Sounds like he hydrolocked the motor.

Garage and Drax got me ROTFL!! Hydroplaned at 10mph defying physics thats classic.

All the oil leaked out???? IF that is the case.. and a hydrolock stalled it.. then something went through the block or oil pan somewhere to make all the oil leak out while not running.

But the whole thing just sounds weird to me. There is WAY more to the story for sure !

You kids and your crazy cold air intakes

Garage1217

Just tired of all these BS guys saying crap like "I was only doing 5mph just coasting and my diff exploded"

Or I had the cruise control on just driving normal on my turbo tC and suddenly a rod shot out the block and through the radiator

Or, I was just making a 3mph left turn at a light really slow and suddenly my axle broke so I lightly tapped the brakes and my car went into a tail spin smacking a curb and bending the rims / tearing the body kit off... And my oh my I just do not know what happened, I was not driving hard at all!

Bottom line, this guy ran his car through a puddle that was deeper than he thought, he hydrolocked it, and bam motor is toast as he just had to have that super duper cold air intake that went way to low in the fender. Get a new motor from car-part.com and call it a day.

you know, before you guys start talking any crap, the dealer checked it out and saw that i turned at 13 mph and when i hit a puddle of water, it did something. the tires spinned or something. it was a huge puddle of water. dont know what, but i was not driving fast at all. i have all the documents the diagnostic to prove it so please dont sit here with this bs plesae.

oh, and i do not have a cold air intake, all stock

Did the puddle look like this:

Seriously, I say what happened, and nothing but immature comments. Grow up.

Come on now.....just help him out. He just asked a question, not to get negative comments.

ScionDriver117, dont get all riled up, no reason, relax.

If there is radiator fluid, oil, and water, then something got sucked up in the intake box or something. Did the oil come out when you towed it or before?

ScionDriver117

No oil came out of ththe car at the time, but whenever it was being pulled at an angle, that is when the goldish, brown oil came out.

When I took it to the dealer, they said they did not know if it was under warranty, but needed approval of someone from Toyota.

i don't know how oil would be leaking when the tow truck was pulling it.. that means something might have punctured our oil pan or something because... correct me if i'm wrong.. but the heck does the oil leak before pulling the plug if there is no hole... is your oil cap on...

there is definitely a hole in your pan, or lower end, i dont see how all your fluids could come out at once

If you have a STOCK intake, the inlet for it is at the TOP of the fender. Stock you have a cover over the drivers side vent. The puddle would have had to be at least 12-18" deep. So no, toyota is not going to cover that under warranty. Already gave advice, find a low milage motor off car-part.com and have it installed. Only way you are getting out of this without paying a ton of cash.

I don't know what the original post said, but from the first few replies, I can confidently post this:

^^ Basically, says he drove into a regular puddle (at 13 mph.. and the dealer magically proved this! ) water made it into the stock airbox (somehow splashing right through the inner fender cover to the air inlet), hydrolocked an is dumping oil as if it has a hole in the block or pan.. coolant in the oil, etc.

flint_08
04-27-2008, 11:05 PM
Yeah I wasnt trying to be a huge dick, but do you realize how fast 13mph is? I mean I can run that fast.

Your story doesn't make sense, and when someone tells me that they can do 120 pushups with no arms ... I am skeptical.

Daurigon

Actually, dealer can prove how fast you are going at the time of a hydro lock or whatever. Their diagnostic machine tells how fast you were going at the time the engine shut off.

Daurigon
04-28-2008, 01:58 AM
Oh, to shed some more light on that, the dealer directly hooks the ECU of the car in question to their diagnostic machine and it reads what the speed was at the time, RPM, etc. everything that the car was doing at the time, and tells which pistons are misfiring and what not.

engifineer
04-28-2008, 02:14 AM
Which in no way tells you how fast the car was going when it entered the water :) Also doesnt tell you how deep the puddle he ran into really was either. Bottom line is that he did not hydroplane if he was only going 13 mph as he states.. and if it is hydrolocked, he drove into DEEP water. So it is not a warranty covered item. If they cover it under warranty, they are basically giving him a BIG christmas present :)

Daurigon
04-28-2008, 02:18 AM
Right. But I thought they can see these sort of things on the computer when they do the ECU check and see when the car died, and how fast he was going before that, see if there were any speeding and such involved?

Well he said that oil, radiator fluid, and water went into the engine....how does the radiator fluid get in if there wasnt any seals broken or maybe I am not getting something?

Zebman

Hydrolock possibly warped the head? I don't know.
