Default Aftermarket radio to use factory ipod hook-up

I was wondering if there is a way to utilize the factory Ipod hook-up to an aftermarket radio that is ipod ready. Please help.

In the best case scenario, you'd have to do some significant custom wiring. From the jack to where it plugs into the back of the stock HU is basically a glorified cable, so if you're handy with a soldering iron, I don't see why you couldn't do it. The tricky part will be finding the pin out information for both the ipod itself and the new stereo so you can use that to fab up a wiring harness. In fact, I'd say the fact finding would probably be far more difficult than the actual fabrication on this one...

Basically just use the wire that the aftermarket radio comes with and forget the stock one. Thats cool. I figured there might be a harness out there to connect the wires together the same way your aftermarket head unit wiring harness is connected using a seperate wiring harness that plugs into your factory ones.

most new pioneer radios come with them, or they're like $10

(although the factory radio is "pioneer" they're different)

The model that im getting does come with an ipod hook-up. I just want to get rid of that and utilize the factory one installed in the middle console.

it can go in your glove compartment so it's still gonna be hidden.
